How to beat Carvex in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond

The long wait is over Metroid Prime 4: Beyond he was released. Players once again dress up as bounty hunter Samus Aran and are tasked with exploring another dangerous alien planet.

Similar to previous entries in the Metroid Prime franchise, players will once again have to fight a number of different bosses. One of the first big baddies you'll encounter is a massive plant called Carvex. Here's everything you need to know about this boss and how to crush this oversized weed.

How to beat Carvex

Carfex combat is divided into two components: the large vines and the plant's own body. When the fight starts use your missiles to blow out the bulbous, armored part of the vine this is near the tip (shown above). Once the armor is blasted, shoot the gooey, weakened part underneath to cut off the vine and make Carvex open its shell.

During this phase, the vine will perform one of three attacks. Either slams the vine down on Samus from above. Be careful not to back away, as this is an instruction to quickly dodge left or right before he strikes. Alternatively, Carvex's penalty can hit the ground and stay there for a while. If this happens, it plans to spin around the arena, in which case you'll need to jump over it.

The final attack causes the creeper to spawn three floating seeds that return to Samus' position. They always start in groups of two, and destroying them will give you energy and rockets when you're running low.

When the vine is cut, the Carvex opens to reveal a large weak spot near the base of the plant. Now you can freely blast Carvex and really start draining his health bar. During this phase, Carvex will continuously shoot spikes from the ground, so make sure you never stand still. It is best to weave right and left when shooting.

Once Carvex is down to about 1/4 of his health, he'll go back on the defensive, this time summoning two vines. This increase in vines will boost their attacks, such as the spin move, which now requires you to dodge two of them at once. Additionally, to actually cause Carvex to reopen, you'll need to separate them within 5 seconds of each other.

That said, focus on destroying each of their grenades with rockets first, but don't actually blast the weak spots that reveal themselves. Instead, separate the two vines only after the armor is stripped. This should give you enough time to destroy both vines and cause the Carvex to reopen. Damage Carvex exactly the same way as before until it reaches half health and shuts down.

This is where things get a little more complicated. Carvex will spawn three vines and the strategy is still the same. You'll need to pop all three within seconds of each other, but the window is very tight. Strip the armor first until all three are actually exposed.

When all three are vulnerable, wait for the vines to knock down to perform a spinning attack. When this happens stick to the back wall and start shooting as the vines fly towards you. Carvex can't replace vines during this attack, meaning you have a longer window to pop all three. Even if you only manage to get one and weaken the others, you'll have a few seconds once the boss returns to normal to destroy the vines before the missing one reappears.

After all three are destroyed, Carvex will open up and you can shoot him until you have only a quarter of your health left. His final surprise is that a bunch of vines shoot out and cover your lines of sight between the three vines. Additionally, these vines will be much more aggressive as they will always drop down when you enter their designated quadrant.

Do exactly what you did in the previous vine stage and shoot them as they spin. This will make the extra cover they create to block your shots unnecessary and allow you to easily separate all three. When they are all destroyed, Carvex will open for the last time. Blast it with everything you've got to finally kill this boss.

Your reward for all your trouble will be Psychic Bombs for your Morph Ball form!
