How to beat Crabble-Rouser and Maeve in Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined

One of the first real bosses you'll encounter Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined it's Maeve. Not long after you land on Ballymalloy, you meet Maeve and hear the heroic story of her brother, who went out on his own to save the town, but never came back because the others didn't help him.

Although she won't talk about it at first, you eventually realize that the monster problem the town has now is Maeve's way of getting revenge on the town for what they all did to her brother, which means it's now up to you to stop her.

How to beat the Crabble-Rouser

The gang prepares to battle the Crabble-rouser in Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined.

Right after it's revealed that Maeve is behind everything, you'll have to face Crabble-Rouser. As you will soon learn, statues where you can restore your MP and HP usually appear right before the final boss region, so it's a good idea stop there and save when you top up.

When you lose a boss fight, you'll be forced to go back to a previous save or pay gold to fight again. So to save money and time, be sure to save with a well-placed statue right before engaging any boss.

Your battle with the Crabble-Rouser is presented as a warm-up, but you'll soon learn that this is honestly the real boss fight. Unfortunately, given how early in the game your party isn't incredibly strong, but thankfully neither are your enemies. For Crabble-Rouser, the recommendations are as follows:

Member of the party

Priorities

Player

Focus on buffing party members and healing when necessary.

Maribel

Use Frizz to deal damage.

Kiefer

Use Flame Slash to deal damage.

This fight should go fairly smoothly, so don't bother using any items here unless you absolutely have to. As long as you boost your party's defense and heal with your player character, you should be able to keep everyone in good shape without wasting items.

When it comes to Crabble-Rouser attacks, he'll basically only use Frizzso you shouldn't worry too much about defense beyond standard buffs. The main thing you'll have to watch is when they strengthen their defense. When his defense is high, there's not much you can do, so it's high time to heal and buff your own party Other than that, continue this pattern until you win.

How to beat Maeve

Maeve stares down the party and townspeople in Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined.

Once you complete Crabble-Rouser, you'll watch a short scene and then be drawn into a fight with Maeve. She changed a bit during that cutscene, but you will also have a new party member to help you. Unfortunately, you won't be able to control your temporary companion, but that won't be a problem in this fight.

To get started, you'll probably be low on MP, so if you have any vials, now's the time to use them. Once you restore your MP, go on the offensive. In addition to Phials to restore MP, don't waste any healing items here; you won't need them. When everyone is ready, here are the roles each member of the group should assume:

Member of the party

Preference

Player

Unfortunately, you'll be pretty useless here unless you already have Aqua Slash, which you probably won't. So just do standard attacks and don't worry about healing unless someone is low from the previous fight. Buffs won't be a problem in this fight either.

Maribel

Use Frizz to deal damage.

Kiefer

Use Flame Slash to deal damage.

As for Maeve's attacks, there are none. More often than not, it won't do anything, and when it does, it will be a standard attack that deals 1 damage. After your fight with Crabble-Rouser, you're basically just in this fight with Maeve to end it for her. So keep up your attacks and you should be able to finish her off quickly.
