Metroid Prime 4: Beyond has been released, so it's time to step into the shoes of bounty hunter Samus Aran. Once again, you'll find yourself sneaking through the corridors of abandoned facilities as everything tries to tear you apart.
The big bad guy this time is Sylux, a rival bounty hunter who you'll often encounter throughout the game. Don't miss the opportunity to try to kill Samus, Sylux will appear for the second one-on-one in Volt Forge seconds after you get the Thunder Chip. Here's how to deal with this troublesome boss so you can walk away with the latest update.
How to beat Sylux
Similar to your first fight with Sylux, he will focus on trying to overwhelm you with a variety of different attacks. If you remember the previous battle, Sylux will use accelerated versions of all these moveswhich makes them more dangerous and harder to avoid.
|
Attack |
Description |
|---|---|
|
Guided missiles |
Sylux sends five homing missiles onto its body and fires them in groups at you. |
|
Energy wave |
Sylux flies into the air and then hits the ground in front of him. This creates a large energy wave that can be jumped over. Occasionally, he will chain this move into multiple strikes, causing multiple energy waves. |
|
Melee Dash |
Sylux raises an arm in front of him and quickly runs to your last known position, swinging 180 degrees in front of him the moment he reaches you. His movement is much more erratic this time around, and he can swipe twice when he launches an attack. |
|
Shooting |
Sylux fires its own cannon at the player while running around the arena. |
|
Electric floor |
Sylux levitates into the air and charges his cannon with a huge ball of energy. When he's done, the ground will electrify and he'll talk around the arena, electrifying all nearby capture points. |
|
Energy bombardment |
Sylux flies through the air and lunges at Samus. As it flies towards you, it fires a quick shower of energy bombs behind it. |
When the fight begins first you'll want to note all the Psychic Grapple points in the room. There are several that form a circle around the room, with two located on adjacent walls that you can hang from. This will be important later and you won't have much time to actually look for these points when it matters.
In addition, Sylux's moves will be much stronger this time, depending on the move, he will attack faster or more often. For example, Energy Wave now slammed Sylux into the ground several times as it moves towards you. Sylux will also occasionally launch a higher energy wave that you will need to double jump over.
Missiles are your best bet for damaging the Syluxas his erratic, fast movement makes him difficult to hit with Flame and Ice Shots. Sylux will also have a large damage window after doing a high energy wave as he will fall to his knees to recover.
Your biggest threat is the Electric Floor movebecause not only will it deal tons of damage, but it will drastically hinder your movement, killing you easily. You'll know when Sylux is about to perform this move when it hovers in the air, raises its arm, and begins gathering a huge ball of energy above its head.
Once you see it, drop everything and look for a clue around you Sylux will electrify the floor and you'll have to swing from grapple point to grapple point to avoid damage. Alternatively, you can grab onto the grapples along the wall, allowing Samus to aim freely and shoot Sylux as he walks by.
Keep in mind that if Sylux gets close, it will electrify the point you're on and knock you down. So don't let him get close!
His second new move is a reversal from his previous energy bombardment from the first encounter. Instead of remaining static, Sylux will lunge at you while shooting behind him. If you're not far away, you'll have to dodge left or right before he gets to you.
fortunately Sylux will have no more surprises for you during this fightnor does it suddenly introduce another set of new moves. The best trick to beat Sylux remains mobile and use the pillars around the arena to block his attacks. You'll also want to destroy the homing missiles they fire, as these will be your main source of health regeneration during the boss fight.
After defeating Sylux, he will be, shockingly, revealed as another controlled robot. You can now leave and return to Mackenzie to get the Thunder Shot upgrade.
