Once you reach the Summit, new enemies and challenges await. Here we go over some of Typhon's build-up, what fighting him looks like, and how you can defeat Melinoe's biggest threat yet.
Updated December 25, 2025 by Kaitlyn Peterson: Updated to reflect the changes to this boss fight since the 1.0 release.
Completion of the summit
The last area on the surface path is the Summit, which opens after you defeat Prometheus. Here all the gold and white glory of Olympus is gone. Summit is everything dark colors, writhing tendrils and breathing stone. The enemies here are often small and fast, but there are a few larger monsters that can hit hard and temporarily stun Melinoe if they hit.
once in a while Tail of Typhon hits the field and wipes out Typhon's children and youif you are on the way. It telegraphs where it drops with a dark, flashing circle, but it can be easy to miss if you're not paying attention or swarming with enemies.
They are also stalking Summit three new minibosses: Typhon's monstrous children, Spawn Typhon and Twins from Typhonand his own barbed tail Typhon's tail.
Hades 2: How To Beat The Spawn Of Typhon
Spawn of Typhon is one of the many challenges you will encounter in Mount Olympus Hades 2.
What are typhoon attacks?
You will fight Typhon at the very top of the Summiton a surprisingly small battlefield. In front of you is just Typhon's head, as he's too big to fit on a more typical battlefield, and perhaps most notable of all: does not have a health bar.
Melinoe notes that she cannot feel his life force, and at no point will you being able to see how much damage the Father of All Monsters took, or how much health is left.
Harder attacks
Typhon's two most dangerous attacks are slam and red whip. For his slam attack, he rams his head into the battlefield and it stuns Melinoe for a few precious seconds. Before this attack Typhon raises his head a bit and his face and horns begin to glow red.
However, there is not a long warning period, so act quickly. The area of effect is not that big, so unless you are directly below Typhon you are safe from this attack.
The second kicker is Typhon's Tonguewhich is a a long red whip-like attack which covers almost the entire field. Typhon telegraphs it with a pull back and to one side. It's a heavy hitter that deals a lot of damage.
You can avoid this by standing directly under the Typhon– the slamming danger zone – because it's the magical part of the whip that does the damage, not Typhon's actual tongue.
Move fast here – dodging a slam can put you at risk of whiplash or vice versa if you don't move fast enough.
Minor attacks
For less dangerous attacks, Typhon will shoot projectiles and whirlwinds in Melinoe. For projectile attack, Typhon summons floating red eyes around his head like a crown and fires them at Melinoe.
There are a lot of them and they cause damage both when they first hit the ground and the second time they split up and ricochet, bouncing a second time.
They move quite slowly, but the second explosion is harder to track than the first. Move to the farthest corners can keep the majority from you. Fortunately, they don't hit as hard as some of Typhon's other attacks.
You know the gales! They are essentially the same as the Harpies of Thessaly and Olympus. They take up a lot of space, push you, and do some damage. Typhon roared at thatand breathes faith from his mouth.
What are the environmental risks?
We can't forget the storm that ravages the Summit—regularly, a strong wind hits the battlefield. This will push the Melinoe to the side if you stay standing, away from the Typon and potentially into other dangers. Normal running against the wind is slow but dash and sprint can make some progress. You also won't move when attacking, but once this combo is done, you'll probably have to sprint back into position before Melinoe slides off.
And just in case you're feeling complacent, Typhon's Tail—or maybe one of many—is back, too. It hits the ground and sends out a shock wavejust as he does when he randomly appears during the summit. He can't be damaged, he'll appear to take a hit or two and run away before disappearing again.
It's a blink-and-you'll-miss-it approach: a growing shadow on the field that only takes two or three seconds to fall. If you remember seeing it during the Summit, it will be featured here.
Spawning
Sometimes, Typhon retreats back into the storm and leaves his children to fight Melinoe.
When he retreats, you will not be able to damage or affect Typhon. He spit red eggs on the field –try to kill as many people as possible before they hatch. You will have about ten seconds.
At first, they hatch into relatively easy monsters like the one-eyed Polyps – but as the fight goes on, the monsters that hatch from the eggs only get more dangerous. The smaller versions of the Spawn of Typhon miniboss in particular are loaded with a have armor this makes it difficult to send them.
Try to focus your fire on one or two eggs rather than spreading them out, as you probably won't get them all before time runs out, so you might as well get one at least.
Later, you can also see whip-like spikes grow out of the floor, swing a few times and disappear. It's also likely to be too much for us to really notice. Don't worry: it's more of a nuisance than a threat like gales.
The second phase
After slapping Typhon for a while, Zeus makes a guest appearance and shoots Typhon down with a lightning bolt – finally the gods are helping Melinoe more directly! This will be temporarily disable Typhonleave him and his peculiar bulbous tongue prone to attack. Here hit him as hard as you can: he will to be down for just a few seconds.
Everything will speed up here. Typhon's attacks remain the same, but he moves faster, giving you less time to react. The monsters they spawn will be stronger. And his slam attack has more range.
Although Typhon will appear dead, he has not really been defeated and will return on subsequent nights, dropping an empty lens after each fight. This item is needed for the Disintegration of Monstrosity spell, which is necessary to actually defeat Typhon in the main story.
If you really want to defeat Typhon once and for all, you'll have to complete several surface and underground runscollecting the necessary items for spells that drop during boss fights.
What is the best battle strategy?
First and foremost, when it comes to defeating Typhon, The choice of weapon should be based on what suits you best. There are weapons that are technically better suited for this fight, but ultimately using a weapon you're unfamiliar with will only hinder you in the long run. You'll be much better off and perfectly capable of defeating Typhon with the weapon you've used the most so far.
When it comes to trinkets, we recommend you use either Luckier Tooth or Engrave Pinas both can keep Melinoe alive longer and thus increase your longevity in battle.
Either Moon Water or Phase Shift for hexes should be your target as Moon Water allows you to heal mid-fight and Phase Shift allows you to slow down the fight and reevaluate if you get stuck in the wrong spot.
Finally, when it comes to Boons, we recommend it favor Hephaestuswhose burst damage can be a significant asset in this fight, just like Hestiaso you can continuously apply burns and deal more damage to Typhon.
Typhon doesn't move and is a massive target, so eventually you'll want to focus on what will hit you and how to avoid itand then jump to deal damage when you can.
If you want an even bigger challenge after your success in defeating Typhon, you can try Typhon's Unrivaled boss fight through Vow of Rivals in Hades 2. This changes Typhon's combat and adds a third phase. However, this is a completely optional fight and not necessary to complete the main story.
