Ye Wanshan has a certain move that he does occasionally during this fight where he jumps on his horse and brings it a javelin knocked down by a straight slash, telegraphed with a red glow. Every time you successfully parry this attack, you'll see a small cutscene showing your character parrying the move and Flaming Meteor Mystic Skill Learning icon fills 1/10.
Parrying/repelling Ye Wanshan's other attacks does not increase the progress of learning mystical skills.
You don't need to deflect Ye Wanshan's spear strike down 10 times in a single instance; progress is carried over between deaths. For example, if you only parry Ye Wanshan's Flaming Meteor attack five times and accidentally kill him in the process, the next time you fight him, the progress bar will start from 5/10 instead of 0/10. You can check your learning progress by clicking the Bodhi Sea umbrella icon on the map.
There is no need to spend energy to get the chest that appears after defeating Ye Wanshan to record your progress in learning the Flaming Meteor skill.
Once you've successfully deflected this attack 10 times, the progress bar will fill up completely and you'll get Flaming Meteor Skill.
