When you first start in StarRupturethe alien species known as Vermin won't bother you much. You can find them roaming Arcadia-7 or guarding an old research base, but they mostly keep to themselves. However, as you begin to progress further and expand your base of operations, you will find that they become a much more hostile party. This leads to a much higher chance of getting infected, which disables your shield and means you'll take damage directly to your health. As such, you'll want to increase your resistance to infections StarRupture improve your chances of survival when you face large swarms of insects.
How to increase base core capacity in StarRupture
Increasing the capacity of the base core is the key to building a truly impressive production facility in StarRupture, but be warned of the risks.
How to increase resistance to infection in StarRupture
You can increase your resistance to infection by creating Infection Res Plasm, which doubles your resistance to infection for 10 minutes after ingestion.
The recipe to make Infection Res Plasm must first be unlocked from the Recipe Station, but this can only be done after finding the Glowcaps.
Glowcaps can only be found in underground caves. These places are inaccessible for most of the “cycle” between ruptures because the hole you fall through to get in is covered by roots. This means that you have to wait until the rupture has just ended and then head to the entrance of the underground cave while the ground is still ashen to get inside. In these caves you can pick large glowing green mushrooms to get Glowcaps.
You then need to put in 40 Glowcaps, 25 Prism Herbs and 100 Data Points to unlock the recipe to make Infection Res Plasm for your Food Station.
Once the recipe is unlocked, you can craft Infection Res Plasm with 3 Glowcaps and 2 Prism Herbs from the Food Station, which is unlocked after reaching level 6 with Future Health Solutions. Prism Herbs can be found around bodies of water on the planet's surface and are purplish-blue in color.
If you plan to make many different resistant plasmas for infection, corrosion, heat, and drainage, make sure you head to the nearest underground cave (or caves) and stock up on Glowcaps whenever there's a burst. They are the primary ingredient in these craft recipes and this is the only place you will find them.
When you have created an Infection Res Plasm, simply select it from your inventory and choose to use it. Over the next 10 minutes, your infection gauge will fill more slowly while exposed. However, keep in mind that plasma will also give you a toxicity of 40, which needs to be managed as it can mess with your hunger and thirst gauges. Purplants are great for reducing Toxicity, but eating them (or food made from them) will negate any positive buffs you have from consumables.
