The 8 Best Final Lines in Final Fantasy Games

Final Fantasy games sure know how to wrap up their stories with one punchy closing line, and these are some of the most effective.

You level up Materia by gaining AP for them, which is like XP but for Materia. When you attach Materia to your weapons and armor, you gain AP for them when they are used in battle. The number of available Materia slots on your device varies, and some slots are linked to allow powerful synergies.

Each Materia has different levels that will improve its stats as you gain enough AP to level up. The material is mastered when the AP ceiling is reached. In fact, mastering all 12 green (magical) materials is one of the objectives of Chadley's Battle Intel Reports, which in return will give you the MP Absorption Materia. If you link MP Absorption with Magic Matter, you can recover MP when the linked attack is used.

Some Materia are more useful than others and some take longer to level. Consider focusing your AP generation on material such as Revive, HP Up/MP Up, Elemental, Healing and Magnify build the most versatile party possible.

If you haven't mastered all the Materia you wanted yet, you might be thinking about AP farming, especially if you're thinking about running on hard mode. Farming AP is only really worth doing after completing the game, because from this point you will get 3x bonus to AP generation. This increase also stacks with AP Up Materia.

In its original form, AP Up doubles the AP gain for any Materia it is attached to. AP Up is located in Chapter 14 and is right across from you as you exit Aerith's house. The thing is, you will find it first as a Pedometer Materia, but it will change to AP Up once you take 5000 steps with the Pedometer Materia equipped. Once the Materia is upgraded, a popup will appear on your HUD.

If you missed the Pedometer/AP Up Materia and finished the game, use the now unlocked Chapter Select and head straight for it and the popular AP farming locations to put it to work right away.

Another thing to consider is the best weapons, materia and armor for AP farming. These have more available (and linked) Materia slots, but while it's possible to upgrade any weapon to a maximum of six slots, it's not possible for all of them until you hit hard mode.

Among the best pieces of armor are Chain braceletwith four slots (all linked) and Ninja Armletwith three (two connected). The Chain Armlet can be found in a chest in Chapter 17 and the Ninja Armlet is equipped by Yuffie once you start the Episode INTERmission DLC.

For Materia, make sure you attach AP Up to the Materia you want to upgrade. Also, make sure you equip Materia to fight as quickly and as quickly as possible: Think of Materia as First strikewhich provides additional ATB at the start of combat, Magnifywhich pairs with elemental matter to hit multiple targets and Magic Up to increase the effectiveness of the spell.

Once you've completed the game, unlocked Chapter Select, and gotten the weapons, armor, and material you need to farm AP as quickly as possible, unleash them at particularly effective farming locations such as:

  • The Shinra Combat Simulator in Chapter 17: Two Person Team vs High Flyers is a popular choice, but restart after the first few rounds to make things easy.
  • Corneo Colosseum: Access to this fixed AP farm location is in Chapters 8 and 14.
  • Early parts chapters 14 and 16.

Once you've done all that, you'll have the fully upgraded Materia you need to face the challenge of Hard Mode.
