Pearl Abyss gave players limited options by customizing the character in the game by changing the hairstyle and hair color of the chosen protagonist. However, talented modder Khione95 has developed a Character Creator mod that allows you to build your own character.

Even though this is a mod and not a vanilla feature, we'll walk you through the easy process of installing and using it, so you'll have over 98 face presets and 159 hairstyles to choose from to truly create your own character.

How to unlock Barber in Crimson Desert

Players can change the appearance of playable characters in Crimson Desert, but only later in the game.

As mentioned above, this is a mod, so only PC players will be able to install and use this feature from the creator of Khione95. As of April 9, 2026, this mod changes Kliff to female, but Khione95 plans to add male modifications in the future.

How to install Character Creator Mod in Crimson Desert

Go to NexusMods.com and download the JSON Mod Manager from PhorgeForge (link here).
Extract the zip file anywhere on your PC.
Double click “mod_manager.exe” to install the software.
The Crimson Desert installation location should be found automatically, but if not, click Browse and set it manually.
With JSON Mod Manager installed, go back to NexusMods.com and download Character Creator – Female from Khione95.
Extract the “CharacterCreator” zip file and enter it to get the “CharacterCreator” folder.
Open the JSON Mod Manager CD and drag the CharacterCreator folder to the top labeled “Drag mods here to install”.
Click the green arrow in JSON Mod Manager to add CharacterCreator to your active mods.
Click “Apply Mods” in the lower left corner of the JSON Mod Manager to activate the mod.
Click “Start Game”. Crimson Desert.

How to use Character Creator Mod in Crimson Desert

Head to Howling Hill Camp to find Eric The Barber. (If Eric isn't here, check out this guide to get him for your camp, but don't download any conflicting mods.)
After interacting with Eric, you will enter the Barber | Customize screen where you can now choose between 98 face presets (Beard) and 159 hairstyles (Hair).
All armor and moves have also been updated with a new female character model.
