Like many fans, I'm looking forward to the Game Freak show Pokemon Gen 10. I haven't bought a Nintendo Switch 2 yet because none of the current exclusives appeal to me that much, but even if I have to shell out the extra money for a Switch 2 due to the RAM crisis, I'm not going to ignore the new main line Pokemon games. Like many fans, I've done my fair share of digging into “Teraleak 2.” So far it all sounds like a great game shoot, but of course it comes down to 'mons. And I think I've figured out what the water starter will be, assuming these leaks last.
According to Teraleak 2, Pokemon Gen 10 will be called Pokémon Wind(s)/Pokémon Wave(s). The region is heavily inspired by Southeast Asia, complete with a massive chain of islands that can include procedural generation. Pokemon players will start in a large city where they will have to catch a starter, with said city being a tourist location with a nearby resort. These details are important, especially if I'm right because I believe the water starter will be based on a snub-nosed monkey.
Everything in Pokemon Gen 10 Teraleak explained
Images and documents related to the Pokemon Gen 10 games, reportedly called Pokemon Wind and Wave, have surfaced online, detailing their new content.
All the reasons why Pokemon Gen 10's water starter could be based on a proboscis monkey
For the uninitiated, the proboscis (long-nosed) monkey has a large nose, typical reddish-brown fur, and a long tail. They are endemic to the island of Borneo in Southeast Asia, mostly found in mangrove forests and along the island's coastal areas. Apart from their nose, they are notable for being able to swim and are just as comfortable in water as they are in trees. You can probably see where I'm going with this, but not only does the monkey proboscis make sense as a real-world inspiration, but there are several other supporting factors.
-
Location: Resort City
-
Fits the popular gun starter theory
-
Gen 10 is a great time to complete the Perfect Trifecta of Starters
-
Pokemon Concierge could have been a teaser
Pokemon Gen 10: Location, location, location
Based on Teraleak, players will encounter the starters at the resort. While there isn't really a need for a narrative reason to explain what the generation starters are, such as why Professor Oak has a fire salamander, a water turtle, and a toad, it would certainly help it feel more cohesive. This is doubly true if Pokemon The Gen 10 leak is accurate because it is not a lab environment but a “real world” environment. It's not like Arceus is walking around the resort; however, since the canadian monkeys exist in coastal areas and the resort implies a beach, there is a narrative explanation that this monkey is an appetizer.
In theory, I could be right about the monkey pokemon, but I'm wrong about it's role as a starter. I have no defense against it except that it feels like an appetizer.
Proboscis Monkey supports the water starter theory
It's no secret that every Pokemon starter has a generalized concept or formula. Pokemon Gen 6 starters are based on RPG classes: Chesnaught as a fighter/knight, Delphox as a witch/mage, and Greninja as a ninja/rogue. Similarly, Pokemon Gen 7 comes out thematicallyHawaiian/Polynesian culture and showmanship, Pokemon Gen 8 is thematically British in its inspirations and Pokemon Gen 9 is a triple threat of artists based on the culture and history of the Iberian Peninsula. Of course Pokemon The Gen 10 starters would have Southeast Asian inspiration, and the Canadian monkey fits in well. Beyond generational connections, however, there are long-standing theories of types.
There is the Zodiac inspiration for most Fire starters in Pokemon. Some fans believe that Water Starters are based on weapons (Blastoise – cannons, Inteleon – snipers, Samurott – katana), although this is a bit of a stretch for Pokémon like Feraligatr (brass knuckles) and Primarina (musical weapons). In a similar vein, the proboscis monkey's large snout would be useful for more than just getting attention from lovers. The snout can be used to make a warning call when a crocodile tries to sneak up on a mate; in other words, its design could lean into the nose like a war horn, which would be closer to the theory than some current water starters in Pokemon.
A Gen 10 Pokémon could finally complete the Trifecta
This is less evidence and more something that would be very nice to see, but several cross-gen starters share two basic kinds of inspiration, but never three.
- Totodile and Fuecoco are based on crocodiles, but there is no grass crocodile.
- Squirtle and Turtwig are based on turtles, but there is no fire turtle.
- Sprigatito and Litten are based on cats, but there is no water cat.
However, a water monkey would complete the trifecta of starter inspos. Grookey is a grass monkey and Chimchar is a fire monkey. Unique silhouettes are important for any Pokemon, and the snub-nosed monkey would easily differentiate between the two. A monkey water starter would wrap it up and it would be interesting to see if there is a future Pokemon generations did something similar, one after the other, in each generation that followed. It would make me very happy to see a trio of Monkey starters in Pokemon – it's symmetrical and aesthetically pleasing.
That said, if Game Freak wanted to close more trifectas in Gen 10, the grass crocodile also makes sense. The Siamese crocodile is also endemic to Southeast Asia. Some of them build their nests from plant remains mixed with mud, and the snub-nosed monkey often uses its snout to warn off crocodiles. Maybe the traffic jam at the beginning of Gen 10 is caused by a water monkey, a grass crocodile and a fire starter.
Pokemon Concierge feels like a Gen 10 teaser right now
It is also easier to identify new ones Pokemon generation trailers in hindsight, such as painting oranges and grapes in Pokemon Sword and Shield those were the trailers after all Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. Pokémon ConciergeIt's very existence feels like a Gen 10 teaser, which would have been more obvious with its release if not for Teraleak. In short, it's set in a resort (perhaps supporting the leak of how players encounter Gen 10 starters) and the fact that it's set at sea (perhaps supporting Pokemon Wind and Waves' Southeast Asia inspo).
Not the strongest evidence, but supporting these points Concierge at the very least, it feels like a teaser for Gen 10. And it would fit thematically with what was leaked about the starters meeting, maybe even offer some insight into their design. A proboscis monkey water starter with an emphasis on the nose like a war horn could still have a waiter vibe. Of course, there are a lot of directions, but at least until Game Freak properly reveals the new starters, I was able to convince myself.
