Helldivers 2 had a rocking year in 2025, but the third-person shooter began to suffer from performance issues. When the game launched in early 2024, it was a great example of how live service models can still put player enjoyment first. With the game still receiving regular updates, this live service approach still works incredibly well. Helldivers 2 he may have had his bumps along the way, but this year could be one of his most exciting — and harrowing — yet.
It is currently unclear when the game's first major update will arrive. Arrowhead Game Studios CEO Shams Jorjani has already teased that it will be a dud. The developer has built a solid reputation for keeping future details under wraps, but Jorjani made one thing clear in a recent Q&A: “a lot of Helldivers are going to die.” Helldivers' corpses littering the battlefield are a necessary part of the fight for a controlled democracy, but details in the game suggest that things will be different next time. Helldivers 2 update.
Helldivers 2 could be gearing up to bring back the Illuminate, and it probably won't be pretty
The Ministry of Truth recently issued a new statement regarding The star of peace. This massive laser has the potential to become one of Super Earth's most powerful weapons to date. However, there is one glaring problem that stands in the laser's way. Due to the sheer power of the weapon, the Star of Peace quickly burns through normal metals. So the brave Helldivers must fight to secure the Magma Planets so they can harvest resources strong enough to withstand the Democracy Laser. Arrowhead Game Studio is keeping a low profile Helldivers 2Plans for 2026, but a seemingly hidden image in the Ministry of Truth announcement could hint at what's to come – and it doesn't look good for the Helldivers.
Eagle-eyed Helldivers fans may have found a sinister illuminated easter egg
Around the 23-second mark in the Ministry of Truth announcement, a brief image of a mysterious structure can be seen. Exactly what the building is remains up for debate, but it looks an awful lot like an Illuminate-built structure. That's about all that's known at this point, but it's enough to send chills down Helldiver's spine. Fight with Illuminate in Helldivers 2 not a joke With a giant space laser now working, the threat of the Illuminate that could require so much power is sweat-inducing.
Another main order focused on Illuminate is Bloodbath Waiting to Happen
Shams Jorjani did not mince words. Helldivers are in for a rude awakening. The Terminids and automatons are definitely a tough challenge, but it's the number of Illuminates present on the battlefield that makes them so difficult. High armor and strength in numbers make Illuminate a force to be reckoned with, and Jorjani's warning should be enough to get players ready for something potentially next level.
What could an illuminated Easter egg potentially mean?

War on the newly discovered planet Illuminate

Introducing new Illuminate types
A large-scale fierce battle with the Illuminate could change the future Helldivers 2 completely. Of course, this was pretty much the case for every Major Order, as wins and losses determine what move Arrowhead Game Studio will make. But it could be something else entirely. If the Helldivers fail the Major Order, then there could be some seriously dire consequences. The Helldivers and Illuminate engaged in a battle for Super Earth on their home turf, and something like this could definitely happen again – only worse. The Illuminate took some serious damage on their first attempt, and if the Octopuses take over the Peace Star or simply prove too overwhelming to defeat this time, it could be game over for Super Earth.
The fate of Super Earth may hang helplessly in the balance, and that's pretty exciting
Super Earth may seem destined to remain a stronghold for the Helldivers and their fight for a controlled democracy, but losing the planet to outside forces is certainly not impossible. Whether it's the Illuminate, the Terminids, the Automatons, or a fourth faction that has yet to reveal itself. Helldivers 2the planet is not completely safe from being overtaken. This is purely speculation at this point, but it is a compelling line of thought to pursue. A scenario where the Helldivers lose control of Super Earth and are forced to survive on the edge of space could be a huge twist that brings Helldivers 2 again in the spotlight this year. Even if a Super Earth is taken over by a faction, it doesn't mean it's captured forever.
The fight to reclaim Super Earth could be spectacular
-
Developers could reuse the Super Earth map in a way that isn't repetitive or lazy.
-
A return arc could add a deeper layer Helldivers 2story.

Getting Super Earth back would be a huge moment for the community.
There were a lot of fierce battles Helldivers 2but losing control of Super Earth and getting it back on the road is a path worth exploring. It would completely pull the rug out from under the players. Such a big wake-up call has the potential to change how seriously major orders are taken. The Helldivers fight hard enough as it is, but losing Super Earth would be a bold reminder that nothing is off limits Helldivers 2. The plans for 2026 may be under wraps for now, but developers have already teased new ones Helldivers 2 features that could change the game.
Some of the features that were hinted at were larger maps Helldivers 2 and possibly new vehicles. However, only time will tell. The Illuminati may not be ready to take over Super Earth, but the breadcrumb leads many to believe that the squid faction is at least up to something big. In the meantime, Helldivers should prepare for the worst, because even the CEO of the game studio thinks that a lot of Helldivers won't make it out alive.
