Since this is the first weekend Pokemon Legends: ZAPlayers are already finding the best strategies to quickly get some of the most powerful Pokemon and beat tough Alphas or Trainers. The others are slowly trying to find all the Pokemon Pokemon Legends: ZA's Wild Zones and complete Mable's research, and there's no right or wrong way to do it. I like to do a combination of both and spend some time talking to various NPCs, which has led me to discover some niche facts about the game and its pets, the most disturbing of which is something that the Gen 7 Pokedex only hinted at.
Pokemon Legends: ZA creates new Pokedex entries for some pets, though many others are recycled from older versions, and those from the Mega Evolutions added to this game are brand new. As much as I enjoy reading the Pokedex entries for the Pokémon I care about the most, some interesting facts I find are not in the Pokedex itself or through the game's Pokémon Professor, but rather by talking to random NPCs. That's exactly what I did, and I discovered something quite disturbing: Vanillish, the ice cream Pokemon, actually has internal organs. Yes, you read that right – organ ice cream. Organic ice creams. Whatever you call it, it's gross at best and nightmare fuel at worst.
The NPC says that they are part of the Pokedex Research Society and believe that Vanillish uses its internal organs to produce chilled air. Now that I think about it, it makes sense since Pokemon must have organs outside of the brain. However, since they're often cute creatures with smiley faces and bizarre looks, it's more of a buried thought than something I've ever consciously considered. Now I was faced with a disturbing image of ice cream with guts, so I had to put the console down for a minute or twenty.
Pokemon Sun and Moon's Pokedex states that Vanilluxe, Vanilish's evolution, has two heads and two brains. He also states that if he loses one of his heads, he can still survive. Terrible.
Pokemon Legends: ZA's Weirdest Pokedex Entry is now clear
To further reinforce this feeling that you've made money from the game, there's another random NPC that asks how one should get rid of “Pokémon droppings”, meaning excrement. So not only do I now know that one of my favorite Gen 5 pokemon species has internal organs, but also that it supposedly passes food and such through its body to expel it. Did I need to know? No. No, he didn't. As a huge fan of ice cream, I'm not sure I want it for the next few months.
To be fair, there were already red flags Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon stated that vanillite, the first stage of the evolutionary line, is born when the sun hits an icicle that does not want it to melt. Also, the Darumaka Pokedex entry states that humans use its excrement to keep warm. Weird and dark Pokedex entries are nothing new, but it makes me ask all sorts of questions about this one Pokemon universe and I don't have many answers.
Pokemon Legends: ZA's new mega evolutions are officially cursed
Still, Pokemon Legends: ZAThe Pokedex is full of strange entries that will make you rethink what you know about Pokemon. Here are some examples:
-
Mega Clefable: “Flies using the power of moonlight to control gravity in a radius of over 32 feet.” So what happens when it's daytime? Is he losing the ability to fly? What happens when it flies high in the sky when it gets light?
-
Mega Chandelure: “One of its eyes is a window connecting our world to the afterlife. This Pokémon draws in hatred and transforms it into power.” Pokemon Legends: ZA accidentally confirming that there is an afterlife where both humans and Pokémon probably go. This opens up a lot of possibilities for Ghost-type Pokémon, as they are sometimes defined as true ghosts and others are not.
-
Mega Pyroar: “This Pokémon spews flames hotter than 18,000 degrees Fahrenheit. It swings around its large, flaming mane as it protects its allies.” It's worth noting that the surface of the sun is about 10,000 degrees Fahrenheit, so the Mega Pyroar can melt just about anything. The fact that this also applies to Magcargo makes me even more concerned that rather than re-linking this information, the game doubles down on it.
Honestly, I'm not sure how to feel about all of this. Mega Pyroar is possibly my favorite new Mega Evolution v Pokemon Legends: ZA next to Mega Falinks so I have to accept the fact that it could melt the planet and that it most likely has guts and poo and does all sorts of other things. But you know, at least Pyroar is based on lions. I never thought I'd see the day when Pokemon canonized Vannilite, Vanillish, and Vanillux with organs, but here we are.
Pokémon's history of botched Pokedex entries continues in Legends: ZA
At the same time, what I'd expect from a franchise that's supposed to be for kids and yet has terrifying Pokedex entries stating that Phantump is a stump possessed by the spirits of dead children, Palossand has the dried bones of his victims at the base of a sandcastle, Drifloon and Hypno kidnap their children so Jiggepuff can't threaten life. Sure, these are pretty dark facts, but I think there's something particularly gross about ice cream with internal organs, and if you don't mind, I don't know what to tell you.
