Gaming insider NateTheHate revealed why Baldur's Gate 3 it will not come to Nintendo Switch 2 in the future. According to the insider, the relationship between Baldur's Gate 3 developers Larian Studios and Wizards of the Coast may be the obstacle preventing this port from ever happening.
Slow, turn-based gameplay on paper Baldur's Gate 3 is a great fit for the Nintendo Switch 2. The critically acclaimed CRPG would be right at home on Nintendo's latest console, opening up the game to an audience that may have never tried it before. And with Nintendo's recent efforts to bring third-party titles to the Switch 2, it always seemed like a clear possibility. Any possible port would not arrive without concern – Baldur's Gate 3 it's notoriously power-hungry during the third act, which could strain the Nintendo Switch 2's hardware. But aside from that one act, it's not a particularly power-hungry game, so if Larian could fix those Act 3 issues, it would feel like one big hurdle Baldur's Gate 3 on switch 2 was resolved. However, there is reportedly one problem that just won't go away.

Larian and Wizard of the Coast relationship could stop BG3 transition
Gaming insider NateTheHate on X recently revealed that “Larian would like to bring Baldur's Gate 3 to Switch 2.” However, that apparently won't happen because “their relationship with Hasbro/Wizards of the Coast is not healthy.” The comment came in response to a comment made by Larian boss Swen Vincke recently Divinity AMA on Reddit where when asked if Baldur's Gate 3 on the Nintendo Switch 2 was happening, he said: “We would love to, but it wasn't our decision.”
For obvious reasons, Vincke does not publicly mention the strained relationship between Larian and Hasbro/Wizards of the Coast. It is also not clear why this would be the case. It is known that Larian started working in the beginning Baldur's Gate 4 before canceling it, citing a lack of creative inspiration to dive right back into that universe. Larian also didn't make any DLC for Baldur's Gate 3 for the same reasons. So while the companies may now have a difficult working relationship, there was a world in which they continued to co-create Baldur's Gate 4.
This is definitely disappointing news for Nintendo Switch 2 players. Getting a 2023 game would be huge for the Switch 2, but in the current environment it just doesn't seem like it's going to happen. Regardless, this is definitely not an issue between Larian and Nintendo. The developer recently released Divinity: Original Sin 2 – Definitive Edition on Switch 2, giving players a chance to catch up on the series before its next title, Divinity.
With this in mind Baldur's Gate 3 could end up being the odd one out among modern Larian titles when it comes to Nintendo Switch 2. It's very possible that Divinity is launching on the platform, whether it's day and date with other consoles or later, as is the case with many Switch 2 ports. For now, players will have to wait and see what Larian has planned for their next title. It has already started to shed some light on what players can expect, they recently claimed Divinity has a better character creator than Baldur's Gate 3. Due to its critical and commercial success BG3expectations for Divinity they will be higher than ever.
