This post contains spoilers for Jujutsu Kaisen.
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 finally released its fourth episode on January 22, 2025 and polarized the audience. It scored a 9.8 on IMDb, which clearly indicated that fans enjoyed the episode. However, most Japanese viewers did not enjoy it JJK episode for one reason or another.
Jujutsu Kaisen: Toji vs Maki – Who's Stronger?
Maki Zenin and Toji Fushiguro, the black sheep of the Zenin clan, sure know how to make a mess, but who is stronger?
They cited the episode as too action-packed. Whether the episode was good or not is a topic for another time, but one thing was extremely clear: Toji Fushiguro was outmatched by another member of the Zenin clan. That person is none other than Maki.
Maki Zenin is as strong as Toji Fushiguro
Maki is equal to Toji Fushiguro in terms of strength
In JJK Season 3 Episode 4, Maki returned to the Zenin Clan to search for the weapons inside the treasury. She took the keys from Megumi Fushiguro, whom Naobito had declared as the new head of the Zenin clan. So she had permission to go inside and look for a weapon or other tool to help her in Culling.
Arriving at the location, she entered the vault where her father Ogi was waiting. He cleaned the tools and lured both of his daughters into the vault to murder them. Like most men of the Zenin clan, Ogi was a misogynist and did not respect his daughters at all. He despised them, seeing them as failures that brought him nothing but shame. When Maki walked in, she found Mai badly injured. Maki tried to fight back, but her father overpowered her.
As the two sisters lay bleeding in a pool of their own blood, Mai approached Maki and told her that being twins was a big deal in the Jujutsu world. In the end, Mai sacrificed herself and took all of Maki's cursed energy. This allowed Maki's body to grow even stronger, reaching the same level of resistance as Toji Fushiguro.
Is Maki really stronger than Toji Fushiguro?

He is physically stronger than most JJK characters
Given Toji's portrayal in the Hidden Inventory Arc, many fans may not even entertain these conversations. However, the truth is that Maki is just as strong as Toji Fushiguro, if not stronger. After gaining power, Maki slaughtered hundreds of elite Zenin warriors. She even wiped out Ogi and then Naoya Zenin. The latter had the advantage for a minute before Maki figured out his technique and pounded him.
Maki's new upgrade raised her physical strength to a whole other level. She was born with a heavenly limitation: Physically gifted. For most of her life, Maki was unable to fully utilize the potential of the Heavenly Restraint. But once Mai took all the cursed energy from Maki's body, she could finally reap the benefits of this power. Fans will see Maki's new power as she takes on new enemies in the Culling Game.
Maki will be a major asset in the cull game
Maki will be invaluable in Culling
It has already been confirmed that the Culling Game will involve many dangerous individuals who will try their best to score points by any method possible, meaning that there will be a bloodbath in which countless people will die. So Itadori Yuji and his friends must stop the competition at all costs. However, they cannot hope to end the game of attrition unless they have the necessary power. This is why Maki's power-up is all the more important.
With her strength, Maki will be able to fend off more enemies and help Yuji get closer to his goal of freeing Gojo Satoru from the prison realm and stopping the cull game. Yuji is no weakling, but there is a limit to how many people he can fight. So he needs help from his friends, including Maki Zenin. Aside from Maki, Yuji will also be heavily dependent on Yuto Okkotsu and Kinji Hakari, who are also his seniors. Both have powerful techniques and will be eager to test them in the Culling Game against powerful enemies.
