Here's everything you need to know before diving into Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge!
You can play the entire trilogy as Daniel, Mr. Miyagi, Ali, and Kumiko, all rendered in gorgeous, era-appropriate pixel art. However, the road to karate glory will not be easy and you will face many tough opponents on your way. Use these tips to defeat your enemies and prove that you are the best.
Stick to one character during your first playthrough
All playable characters in Street Rumble level up as you defeat opponents and complete levels. This development gives you access to new signature attacks and various gaming enthusiastssuch as extra lives and an increased focus meter.
While it may be tempting to try the entire list, do it can leave characters understated towards the end of the campaign, making the final stages disproportionately difficult.
Trophy hunters will also be rewarded for their loyalty; they exist
achievements for reaching level ten and max level
with every playable character.
Play mini-games and practice combos
During the campaign, Street Rumble will take short breaks to introduce mini-games. Karate practice and tournament practice (unlocked at the end of the game) are especially important because they can see you practicing combos during the traditional levels you can rush the bullies.
It pays to spend some extra time in these modes to learn each combo and master the timing of the gameallowing you to deal serious punishment to enemies who get in your way.
Use throwing for crowd control
If you walk into the opponentwill be your character start the grapple. You then have the option to continue pounding them using the light attack button, or launch them with a heavy attack.
These rolls become invaluable when there are a lot of enemies on screen, e.g the thrown enemy hits all others in its pathknocked them all down. Not only does it deal damage to all of them, but it also gives you a moment to think, allowing you to plan how you want to attack next.
Stay focused
When you dig your fists into your enemies, you'll notice a a purple gauge that fills below your health bar. This is yours Concentratesource that can be used to unleash your character's signature attacks. Each move costs one section of the meter, and as you continue to level up your character, it will gain additional segments in the Focus meter.
There is one more way your Focus can be depleted, and that is be hit by attacks. The Focus indicator will actually be will protect you from losing health until it was completely emptied, and that's why it is important not to spam your signature moves.
It's possible to go through an entire level without affecting your health in any way, but if you don't pay attention to your Focus, you'll quickly run out of lives.
Jump to avoid damage
Anyone who has practiced karate knows the importance of having a strong base with a lot of power coming from your hips and legs. It makes sense then that most of the enemies in Street Rumble to keep their feet firmly on the ground.
It also means theirs attacks can often be avoided by simply jumping. Use your aerial attacks to stay on the offensive while minimizing the risk of being knocked down.
Prioritize barriers
In certain stages, you will encounter obstacles that will prevent you from progressing. You will have to destroy them to continuebut this task is made significantly more difficult by the waves of thugs that come to attack you.
Barrier should be your first prioritybecause destroying it will stop more enemies from spawning. Then use these lowlifes as punching bags to build your Focus unleash a flurry of signature attacks into the barrier.
If you find yourself fighting a horde on screen, use throws, heavy attacks, or other techniques to counter it
knock enemies to the ground
and buy yourself some time to hit the wall.
Search Pickups
Street Rumble has a small collection of pickups that can help you on your way. They will help restore your health, focusand even increase your attack power.
Unlike other beat-'em-ups, enemies don't simply drop them after defeating them. Instead, you'll have to explore the environment, punching through parts of the background to see if they hide useful items. It is recommended for this attack every interacting element in phase; you never know if he has a useful power-up!
Don't forget Parry
Aside from jumping and saving Focus, Street Rumble has one more way to avoid damage and that is dodging. Even though the game refers to this as a dodge execution, it is much more similar to parrybecause you don't move at all and you are it was allowed to attack immediately afterwards.
Executing a parry is as simple as pressing the corresponding button (Circle/B/A) just before it hits you. If you do it right, you will negate any impact on your focus or healthand get an opportunity to strike. It's a high-risk, high-reward technique, but it can be incredibly useful during boss fights to keep you grounded without losing access to your signature moves (or life).
