New leak claims unused PS5 store icons could indicate that features like cross-buy and “echo mode” are potentially in development for Sony's console. In addition, the leaked PS5 store icons included some that could indicate which games are available on both PS5 and PC, although the alleged icons were notably absent from the PS4 database.
Since its uncertain launch in 2020, the PS5 has gradually increased its user base thanks to exclusive titles and support for popular third-party games. As support for the PS4 ended, more users switched to the PS5 to continue playing their favorite titles through backwards compatibility along with exclusive games. Although some of the best PS5 titles, like God of War Ragnarok and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirththat eventually made it to PC stores, the PS5 family remains an affordable alternative compared to mid-range gaming PCs.
Leaked PS5 icons and symbols may hint at new features in production
Although all rumors about potential PS5 features should be taken with a grain of salt, a new leak may shed light on some of Sony's plans. According to Twitter user Amethxst, new icons and symbols may be added to the PS5 console and various PSN websites. These include a “PS5/PC” icon that can be used to indicate which Sony-supported games are available on both platforms, such as Lost soul aside. Additionally, a Cross-Buy icon has been revealed, although its purpose remains unclear at the time of writing. Game Rant confirmed Amethxst's claim with a screenshot taken on PS5 at 8:30 PM Eastern on November 4th.
With Sony's rival Microsoft offering the ability to cross-buy PC and console games through the Xbox Play Anywhere program, the leaked “Cross-Buy” icon could indicate that Sony may be considering a similar offering. Other icons from the leak include green and gray symbols with a charging indicator in the middle, along with some unused icons for games that support cloud backup and DualSense touchpad controls. The leaked icons are notably missing from PS4, but are available to view on PS5.
In response to other users' questions about the legitimacy of the leaked icons, Amethxst shared a video as proof that the icons exist. Amethxst's PSN profile infobox displayed each of the leaked PS5 icons along with a brief description. Amethxst said the icons were added between March and November 2025, which means they were a recent addition.
With the PS5 holding on to over 80 million units sold, support for the console is likely to continue for years to come. Whether any of the leaked PS5 icons will bear any fruit remains to be seen.
