Leaker brings update to Persona 6 and Persona 4 Revival

Personality 6 is not in development hell, the well-known leaker claimed, dismissing fan concerns stemming from years of Atlus' silence on the project. The same source also shared new insights about Persona 4 Revivalwhich indirectly illuminates the current state of development Personality 6.

First official confirmation Personality 6 dates back to July 2021, when Atlus posted several job openings on the Japanese website Green. Each post included a quote from Naoto Hiraoka, an executive producer at Atlus, who said the company was hiring more staff for Personality 6 due to the growing expectations of the fans. “Exceeding [Persona] 5 will be difficult with the current staff,” the quote read, though it did not explain the project's development status at the time.

Although it's taking a while, Persona 6 is reportedly not in development hell

While Atlus still hasn't revealed Personality 6 Four and a half years later, progress on the game is steady. This is indicated by a recent update from established leaker NateTheHate, who stated on December 12 that the project is not in development hell. The comment was made in response to a concerned fan referencing a May 2023 report Personality 6 leaker who claimed that Atlus is internally targeting a 2024 release. Taken at face value, the implication is that the project has since been delayed, though NateTheHate didn't offer any further details on what might have caused the shift.

It is claimed that Atlus is not leading the development of Persona 4 Revival

Separately, NateTheHate also commented Persona 4 Revivala remake of Atlus' critically acclaimed 2008 JRPG, which was officially announced in June 2025. An insider clarified that Atlus is not leading development on the project, which has instead been outsourced to Kyoto-based Tose Software. Founded in 1979, Tose is one of the world's largest outsourced game developers. According to a November report by Japanese outlet GameBiz, Atlus and Square Enix were Tose's two biggest clients over the past year, accounting for more than 22% of the company's 2025 revenue.

Persona 6 could still surpass Persona 4's resurgence in the market

Yu Narukami explores the city - Persona 4 Revival

The fact that Atlus is only supervising the upcoming remake is telling Persona 4 Revival does not affect Personality 6 a development that some fans originally feared. Instead, its in-house P-Studio – formerly known as Creative Department 2nd Production – can fully focus on Personality 6 by the end of 2025. Given that the game has been in development since at least 2021, and modern AAA development cycles average around five years, it remains a theoretical possibility that Personality 6 could have released earlier Persona 4 Revival although it hasn't been officially announced yet.

Atlus doesn't always announce games in release order

There have been several examples in recent history where Atlus announced a game and then announced another title that beat the first to market. Metaphor: ReFantazio was originally revealed as Project Re: Fantasy in December 2016 but not launched until October 2024; meantime, Shin Megami Tensei 5 was announced and released in January 2017 and November 2021. Similarly, Persona 5 Royal was announced (December 2018) and released (March 2020) between SMT 5detection and eventual launch.

Persona 4 Revival it was announced at the June 2025 Xbox Games Showcase without a release window, suggesting it could still be years away from completion. Although it is not clear how far Personality 6 is in development, Atlus will soon have a natural opportunity to finally share some details about the project, with the franchise's 30th anniversary coming up in September 2026.
