Key things
- Villain in Superman: Legacy confirmed as Ultraman via leaked toy list provided by insider Daniel Richtman.
- Director James Gunn previously seemed to deny the presence of Ultraman, but set photos suggest otherwise.
- Gunn has been hinting at an Ultraman appearance without explicit confirmation, leaving fans eager for the film's release.
One of the weirdest things about superhero movies Superman: Legacy is that some of its biggest leaks come from toys that tend to be revealed before the movie even hits theaters. For the first post of the new DCU dealing with the Man of Steel, there was a “leak” before the first trailer. But it looks like one of those toy leaks has confirmed one of the villains in next summer's blockbuster, even though James Gunn has tried to quash earlier rumours.
In retrospect, Gunn's denial of the villain's presence in Superman: Legacy he used some language that could be seen as a way of getting around the rumor rather than actually dispelling it. Of course, that would be a fair play if the DCU boss knew that sooner or later people would realize the rumors were true.

Superman: Legacy Villain Outed
A toy list posted on X by Daniel Richtman, a person known for being an insider in the superhero movie genre, included an entry referencing Ultraman. Alongside the tweet, Richtman wrote, “Ultraman confirmed via new toy list for Superman movie. So it's confirmed to be Ultraman and not Ulysses. The post was a reference to previous attempts to narrow down who will be the “main” villain in the next one Superman film. Internet sleuths had previously narrowed it down to Ultraman, but that's where Gunn stepped in and offered a denial that makes a lot more sense in this context.
When Ultraman was first rumored to be the “main” villain, Gunn did what he's well known for. He took to social media to address them directly. In his denial, he claimed that the “main” villain in Superman: Legacy was Lex Luthor, much like Superman was the “main” protagonist. However, not long after he tried to shoot down talk of Ultraman on the film set, photos began circulating online that made it look like the villain was in action, specifically in a scene that also included Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr and David Corenswet. title character.
While the toy list seems to indicate that Ultraman (while also confirming characters like Krypto, Megafig, Guy Gardner, and Metamorpho) is indeed in the film, Gunn is still unwilling to specifically confirm his existence in Heritage. When asked on Threads if he was finally ready to admit that there would be a villain in the film, he said that he “needs to put all the toys in order” and that he didn't believe the list would spoil anything. He seemed to be pointing back to the “main” qualifier when he talked about the antagonists.
For those unfamiliar with Ultraman's story, in most DC comics stories he is the evil version of Superman from Earth 3. One of the most famous depictions in previous animated films cast him as a sort of mob boss who worked in tandem. with an evil version of Wonder Woman and Batman (who was Owl Man in that universe). It seems the fans Superman: Legacy will see James Gunn's version of Ultraman when the film hits theaters on July 11, 2025.
Written and directed by James Gunn, Superman is the first film from Warner Bros.' rebooted the DC Universe to focus on the titular comic book hero. It introduces a new version of the Man of Steel following Henry Cavill's departure from the role and honors the character's roots as “the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way.”
