There are many reasons to love Resident Evil. From brilliantly paced horror to highly detailed environments, the franchise has rightfully earned its place in the hearts of horror gamers. She also earned her way there thanks to her humor. His humor is essential; breaking up tense pieces with a moment or serve that encourages the players to let out the breath they've been holding. Leon S. Kennedy's infamous one-act movies are a perfect example of this tension-reducing charm. Few protagonists are as committed to saying the absolutely wrong thing at the perfect moment as the beloved Leon. Whether he's facing off against cult leaders, monsters, or world-ending threats, he somehow always finds time to drop an absolutely awful simple thing that ranges from charming to completely unhinged.
I often find myself thinking that other games deserve the same dad-joke/once treatment. Not because I want to dilute the very purposeful tone carefully curated in the writers' room, but because… well, why not? So imagine releasing the same energy to Leon Resident Evil to Elden Ring. Elden Ring is a game defined by tragedy, doom, and some of the most intimidating and ruthless bosses in modern gaming. The lands between are not made for joking, and their demigods do not joke. But Leon didn't care.
Resident Evil Requiem Review: A Masterpiece of Horror Games
Expertly blending pure horror and over-the-top action, Resident Evil Requiem becomes the ultimate Resident Evil experience.
Margaret, Fell Omen
As the first boss in Elden RingMargit sets the tone the brutality of the game with delayed attacks and relentless pressure. Margit wastes no time testing Leon, slamming spectral weapons into the ground and trying to say something. Leon, meanwhile, is already circling and reading the conclusions as if he's just another boss he has to memorize.
Big talk for a guy camping on a bridge.
Malenia, Blade of Miquella
Malenia is one of the most infamous bosses in modern gaming, known for her speed, lifesteal, and relentless pressure. Leon would immediately set Malenia's stance, knowing it was going to hurt. Still, it persists. He has to commit.
Godrick the Grafted
Godrick is a powerful ruler who sews his limbs together in a desperate attempt to become something greater. His whole arrangement is a grotesque excess with limbs stitched together in a desperate bid for power. Leon would time it instantly, as he would any monstrous woods with too many moving parts.
Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon
This boss is a creepy two-phase battle that moves from terrifying classroom chaos to full-on cosmic wizardry. The first phase of Rennala's fight is pure chaos, with moving students, flying furniture, and a glowing weak point that Leon has already decided to shoot. By the time Rennala starts casting moon magic, he's less interested in learning and more interested in not getting flattened.
Ma'am, could you get your kids to stop throwing books at me?
Starscourge Radahn
This legendary general holds back the stars themselves – while riding a horse that should definitely not be carrying him. Leon would look at Radahne and need to stop.
What if we gave the horse a break?
Morgott, King of Signs
Margit returns, angrier, stronger, and even less interested in letting Leon escape. Leon, on the other hand, would probably see it as retaliation that he didn't sign up for.
Haven't we already covered this?
Resident Evil: Any game featuring Leon Kennedy
Leon S. Kennedy isn't just known for his round kicks. It is the basis of the Resident Evil game and appears in many games of the franchise.
Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy
Lord of Blasphemy v Elden Ring is a giant snake god who invites you to “join the family” in a tone that suggests you definitely shouldn't. At least he's very polite about it.
I will pass the entry on to the family.
Fire Giant
He's a tall, tragic guardian whose size alone makes the fight overwhelming.Leon spent most of this fight craning his neck, trying not to be flattened by something the size of a building. The weak spot would eventually become apparent. Only then would he comment.
Talk about having two left feet.
Maliketh, the Black Blade
One of the fastest and most punishing bosses in Elden RingThis boss is capable of ending fights in a matter of seconds. Maliketh is fast and aggressive and would deny Leon the breathing room he is used to. This would result in less talking and more survival, so Leon's one liners would be reserved for players to grunt and roll their eyes at later.
This was actually the problem…
Sir Gideon Ofnir, Omniscient
Imagine a man who claims to understand everything and yet decides to challenge Leon. Leon had heard this tone before, even from his earliest days Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4. It usually doesn't end well for whoever uses it.
You should have known how it ended, my friend.
Godfrey, First Elden Lord / Hoarah Loux
Godfrey is a royal warrior who eventually decides that titles are overrated and decides to start throwing his hands. Until suddenly it's just fists, grabs and raw violence. Leon would adapt to that.
Radagon of the Golden Order
Radagon doesn't mince words. Neither does Leon, especially when a large glowing hammer the size of a truck is coming at him.
Nice hammer. Did your mom pick it for you?
Elden Beast
This space entity feels less like a boss and more like a fever dream. At this point, Leon had seen enough. The scale, the setting, the fact that he's fighting what looks like a living, moving constellation…he needs a drink.
… that's above my pay grade.
