Lord of Hatred officially confirms a major change to the game and fans are not happy

Blizzard confirmed it Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred is set to expand Torment levels from four to 12. This completely changes the difficulty curve Diablo 4and bring the system more in line with what can be found in Diablo 3. However, fans did not take the news positively.

Torture is how Diablo 4 handles the difficulty of the ending. The game has four standard difficulties: Normal, Hard, Expert and Penitent. However, after reaching level 60 and beating level 20 in The Pit with a character, players will unlock the ability to enter Torment 1 in Diablo 4. This greatly increases the game's difficulty, reducing players' armor and resistance to attacks. As a result, players get more XP and gold for killing monsters, which increase with each level of Torment. There are currently four difficulties in Torment Diablo 4each representing a significant step up from the last. Reaching a new level of Torment is a huge step for character progression, which is why the current system is so popular.

Diablo 4 Season 12 Nerfs One of the best XP farming methods in the game

Diablo 4 Season 12 makes a big nerf to one of the best XP farming methods in the entire game.

Diablo 4 confirms that Torment 12 is coming in Lord of Hatred

In a recent YouTube interview with content creator wudijo, Diablo 4 Associate Game Director Zaven Haroutunian revealed that the upcoming Lord of Hate the expansion will introduce a total of 12 levels of Torment, a large increase from the current four. Haroutunian talked about how certain content like The Pit scales much better than a lot of other content in the game that Blizzard wants to address. “We have the whole rest of the game, all these other activities that don't go past a certain point. So with.” Lord of Hatewe're actually adding Torment levels up to 12. Those 12 won't go beyond The Pit. We are not actually inflating the numbers beyond the current ceiling. What we're really doing is saying, 'Hey, all this activity, all this content can be competitive,' so at the very end of the game you're not stuck in just one place.”

Blizzard basically wants to make more content viable Diablo 4game at the end of the game. Right now, players often get stuck in a loop of coming up with the same activities for the fastest XP possible. By introducing more levels of Torment Lord of Hatethe goal is to introduce more diversity than currently exists.

While the approach makes sense when explained this way, many fans were extremely unhappy in a thread posted on Reddit. Some have compared it unfavorably to Diablo 3which features 16 levels of Torment and has long been criticized for reducing the sense that difficulty actually matters. The top comment in the thread claims “They just keep switching between design directions”, while also pointing out that this change will further divide the player base. Users can only play with others of the same Torment level, so the player base previously present between Torment 1-4 will now be split between Torment 1-12. As one user puts it, “T1-3 are ghost towns within a week,” a problem that could only get worse with the next eight levels of Torment dividing players.

This is the first official confirmation Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred increases the number of Torment levels in the game. Blizzard actually teased multiple levels of Torment a few weeks ago, during Diablo Focused on the 30th anniversary. A brief moment of footage showed some gameplay from Torment 5, confirming that at least one more level is on the way. It was still uncertain how many would be added in total, and the jump to 12 is a significant increase.

Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred is scheduled for release on April 28, 2026, and adds a new Warlock class to the game, among other features. Blizzard also starts before that Diablo 4 Season 12, Season of Slaughter, which allows players to transform into The Butcher for the first time ever. Because of the close proximity Lord of HateSeason 12 will be a little shorter than the other seasons, but regardless, fans are in for an exciting few months.
