Borderlands 4 is getting its first major DLC, Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damnedthis March, which will further expand the bombastic robber-shooter. Borderlands 4like its predecessors, it features four playable vault hunters, each with their own unique strengths and weaknesses and progression paths. That said, Vault Hunters and the variety they bring are the heart of the game Borderlands 4 experience, which is why the arrival of C4SH is so promising.

C4SH previously worked as a dealer bot at Kairos Casino before choosing to live a life of adventure as a Vault Hunter. But it would seem he hasn't put his gambling past behind him. Its programming, once designed to facilitate the risky and cavalier habits of casino patrons, has seemingly turned into an obsession with chance. This fascination with the laws of probability informs the underpinnings of C4SH's gameplay, which Gearbox describes as “distinctly unpredictable”, with its action skills always involving an element of chance in some way.

At this point, we still have a lot to learn about C4SH and how it will perform on the battlefield, but its apparent wild card archetype certainly looks promising. The chance-based nature of C4SH also makes him great as a post-launch DLC character, as one can imagine supporting more unusual playstyles best suited to those already familiar with Borderlands 4's mechanics and are looking for something experimental and refreshing. In addition to this unique gameplay premise, C4SH has a compelling, cyber-goth aesthetic and an interesting story, so it has every chance to meaningfully enrich Borderlands 4narrative and combat sandbox.

Mad Ellie and The Vault of the Damned seem to bring back Mancubus Bloodtooth

Owner and operator Borderlands 3The Lodge, Mancubus Bloodtooth, narrates Mad Ellie and The Vault of the Damned trailer and it will appear on the screen for a short while. Bloodtooth himself is creepy but well-intentioned, his Lodge serving as a safe haven for players in BL3'with Guns, love and tentacles expansion, though additional DLC revealed that The Lodge is not fixed to one point in space. In other words, he can travel between places and across galaxies, which explains his appearance Crazy Ellie.

As Borderlands 3 players know well Guns, love and tentacles it doesn't shy away from space horror themes either: the expansion's setting, Xylourgos, is home to a fanatical cult that worships the Goliath monster Gythian. But like most Borderlands 3space horror Guns, love and tentacles is couched in self-referential and irreverent humor. Crazy Ellie and Vault of the Damned It feels decidedly more serious, and with Bloodtooth and The Lodge being associated with space horror, the expansion could deliver some effective scares and unsettling moments. It will be interesting to see Bloodtooth and The Lodge potentially portrayed in this new light.

Mad Ellie and The Vault of the Damned brings new gear to Borderlands 4

The most visible and pedestrian aspect Crazy Ellie DLC is a collection of new loot that players can collect. The meat and potatoes of the expansion are C4SH, the new main story missions, and the new Kairos explorable area, but the arrival of new legendary gear, the Vault Hunter outfit, and various other cosmetics are arguably just as important. Sure, Border the series lives and dies on the back of its prey and Crazy Ellie is looking to strengthen the already considerable number of facilities it offers BL4basic game.
