Marathon unveils plans to improve rewards with more cosmetics and running shell styles

Bungie has confirmed plans to make the current Season 1 loyalty subscription feel more valuable Marathon players by revealing new Runner Shell skins and other additions coming in April. Despite a rocky development cycle, Marathon seemingly found its footing in 2026 thanks to a much better received Server Slam compared to last year's Alpha Test. The extra time has seemingly done the game good, and while the experience isn't perfect, Marathon It seems to have already found a passionate player base.

After launching on March 5, the experience still wasn't perfect, though Bungie seems to have been quick to try to fix the issues players reported. In fact, the Server Slam test saw most players criticize the game's user interface due to readability issues. On the other end of the spectrum, fans seem to have embraced it Marathon seemingly learned his lesson Fate 2's microtransactions and will not charge for seasonal content, offer items that unlock content, or have rewards expire after the season ends. Even with the reduced FOMO elements, players still experienced some issues Marathonmicrotransactions.

Bungie announces improved rewards in Marathon's Reward Pass

One particular issue that continues to be brought up is how lackluster the Season 1 Loyalty Pass is, with many feeling that the value of what is earned for the price offered is not worth it. Bungie has already been quick to respond to this particular feedback, previously announcing that the studio plans to make improvements and add more value to the things players can buy, including the Reward Pass. The first step in this process was repair MarathonPremium currency 's value, as previously buying a $10 LUX pack would only give 1100, which was not enough to buy a cosmetic skin for 1120 and force players to buy more. Now $10 will give the correct amount of 1,120 LUX, and anyone who previously purchased the pack will receive an additional 20 LUX as compensation.

The second part of that plan was just announced on social media, where Bungie reveals how it plans to make Season 1's Reward Pass feel more valuable. Previously, there was only 1 runner skin available on the Premium track, the Achromatic Rush skin for Vandal. After the April update, Thief, Assassin, Destroyer get new Runner Shell styles within the premium track, while the Recon Runner Shell style is added to the free track. Specifically, they seem to use the same monochromatic styles as Vandal's skin, mostly black with white spots in places. To help balance out the free rewards, Bungie is also adding a WSTR shotgun style and a profile emblem, both of which will be added to the game during the mid-season update in April.

Arachne Shell Disciple styles are being prepared for the upcoming Marathon update and will be obtained through the codex. Bungie also gave players a first look at the look of the skin, showing Triage sporting a combination of black, white and red with just a hint of purple.

Reaction to the reveal seems to be quite positive, although it will be interesting to see if this change helps to quell the current review bombardment campaign Marathon is experiencing While issues with the user interface and microtransactions were mentioned, others complained that Marathon felt “too sweaty” with a fast time to kill and was not very casual player friendly, while some highlighted performance-related issues. There are even such Fate 2 fans who remain disillusioned and ignored by Bungie after Shadow and Order was shelved and no content plan for 2026 was provided.
