2026 has already been an impressive year for video games, following in the footsteps of 2025 and 2024. The industry has dropped many real hits in the first three months from long-in-development indie gems like Mewgenics to AAA smorgasbords like Resident Evil Requiemand it looks like we're just getting started.
A number of highly anticipated games will indeed launch in April and beyond, including Grand Theft Auto 6 (assuming it doesn't deviate from its supposed Fall 2026 release). Even before that, though, there's a massively crowded March 26, which will host several high-profile games, especially on the Nintendo Switch 2. If you're looking to clear out some smaller titles before some of the biggest releases in 2026, you might want to keep your eyes peeled for this March date.
Screamer (PC, PS5, XSX/S)
I'm crazy about bold twists on an established genre, so He screamed It turned out to be one of my most anticipated games of the year. It comes from Milestone Srl, a developer who worked on both racing games (e.g Moto GP) and weirder (Hot Wheels Unleashed), He screamed mixes a dramatic anime-influenced story with impressive arcade racing mechanics. The game's cyberpunk world, aggressive racing gameplay, and diverse cast of playable characters make it, if nothing else, a breath of fresh air in the racing space, so I'm excited to see how it turns out.
Midnight Walk (Switch 2)
The game actually came out last spring, but March 26 is the day it migrates to the Nintendo Switch 2. With a striking visual style based on real claymation, Midnight walk is certainly one of the most aesthetically pleasing video games I've seen in some time – that alone may be worth the price of admission for some. If you passed Midnight walk when it dropped last year, or if you just want to experience it on the versatile Switch 2, your chance is coming soon.

Virtua Fighter 5 REVO World Stage (Switch 2)
Virtua Fighter 5 is one of SEGA's most interesting properties. Originally released in 2006 as an arcade cabinet game, Virtua Fighter 5 it was ported to the PS3 and Xbox 360 and has since seen several reissues and remasters. latest version, Virtua Fighter 5 REVO World Stage (formerly Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown), launching in 2021 and then again in 2025 for current-gen consoles and PC. Now this rendition is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2, much like the other main franchise Ryu Ga Gotoku, Yakuza/Like a Dragon.
While it certainly has its faults, Virtua Fighter 5 is a solid and satisfying 3D fighting game with a small but dedicated community. With quick encounters and easy-to-learn controls, it also lends itself well to the Switch's handheld capabilities.

Icarus: Console Edition (PS5, XSX/S)
Icarussci-fi survival game by DayZ creator Dean Hall, jumps to consoles this month, was launched on PC back in 2021. The game takes place in the distant future, on a planet that was the subject of humanity's failed attempt at terraforming and is now full of hostile fauna and ecological hazards. Players control an explorer who ventures into this deadly and untamed land in search of rare and valuable resources, borrowing Icarus definitely an extraction shooter-like edge. With up to 8 player co-op, the game's console release should hopefully lead to a healthier online community, to say the least.

Life is Strange: Reunion (PC, PS5, XSX/S)
Perhaps the most anticipated game on March 26 Life is Strange: Reunion she's ready to make a big splash, for better or for worse. Chloe Price from the first episode of the time travel series Life is strange reunited with Max Caufield and the pair must once again stop a catastrophic event. It's hard to say how this will play out, as bringing Chloe back into the fray after so long is certainly a bold choice. I hope deck nine makes the landing.
