One Pokemon TCG pocket type gets the short end of the stick
Pokemon TCG Pocket has some pretty obvious balance issues at launch, but one type of Pokemon in particular is a bit worse off than the others.
As reported by PokeBeach, the Pokemon TCG is returning to McDonald's restaurants in France and running from December 4th to January 21st. Restaurants will be handing out booster packs containing four cards, drawing from a total of 15 cards. Each pack is guaranteed to have one holo, with six possible holos, printed on McDonald's exclusive confetti holo foil. The Pokemon packages may contain the following Pokemon TCG cards:
- Charizard
- A drag counter
- Dragonite
- Drampa
- Eevee
- Hatenna
- Hydreigon
- Jigglypuff
- Coraidon
- Miraidon
- Pikachu
- Quagsire
- Rayquaza
- Roaring moon
- Umbreon
These promotions usually come at different times in different areas, rather than rolling out all over the world at the same time. It's possible McDonald's isn't offering the cards right now in the US because it's already running big promotions, including the return of the McRib sandwich. This promotion even includes a unique half-gallon offer of McRib BBQ sauce, which could create a stampede of customers. In combination with the usual fever Pokemon cards may not be ideal. As such, these cards will most likely arrive either just before the end of the year or sometime in early 2025.
Interestingly, the release Pokemon card goes against the usual pattern for McDonald's. The new cards typically arrive in the US first, followed by France, with initial predictions showing the cards arriving in US restaurants in October. That month came and went without any mention of them, but McDonald's was running a Chicken Big Mac special at the time. For the same reasons as before, it probably wouldn't be wise to run two potentially popular promotions at the same time, so Pokemon they could be pushed back in the chain's home country.
