Metroid Prime 4: Beyond players will encounter the Carvex boss in the Garden of Remembrance area of Fury Green. It's the second major boss fight in the game, and much like Aberax before it, those hoping to defeat Carvex will need to use a skill learned a bit earlier in the game.
Every Metroid game ever made from worst to best, ranked
Unlike other Nintendo properties, the Metroid games vary widely in quality, and we've ranked each game in the series from worst to best.
The key to defeating Carvex is to reveal its core, which can be done by destroying all of its tentacles at the same time. It's relatively easy during the first phase of the fight, but as more tentacles start to shoot out, some Metroid Prime 4: Beyond players can start fighting. Fortunately, defeating Carvex is not too difficult.
How to beat Carvex in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond
In order to deal damage to Carvex, players will first need to destroy its tentacles and expose its core. At first, they will only have one tentacle to fear, but as the fight goes on, two more tentacles will sprout. The tentacles will spawn a second or two after being destroyed, so players will have to find a way around destroy all of Carvex's tentacles at once. The solution, of course, is the recently acquired Samus Control beam.
To use the Control Beam, players should press X to switch to Psychic Visor, then hold A or ZR to attack. When she releases the button, Samus will send out a purple beam that can be controlled with the right analog stick or the motion controls. The goal is here guide the beam through the weak spot in the middle of each tentacle without hitting any obstacles. If all goes according to plan, Carvex's core will be revealed and players can start blasting away.
Players should take a moment to scan Cavex before defeating him. This means that if they forget, they will be able to get the log file for Carvex from the Sanctum of the Guardians area a little later.
It is important to note that before using the control beam, players will have to use Samus' regular blaster to destroy the outer sheath that protects each tentacle's weak point. If you shoot the weak point too often after it has been exposed, the tentacle will be destroyed, so players should be sure to stop shooting once the spikes are removed. If they destroy the tentacle early, they will have to wait for it to reappear and then try again.
During the first phase of the fight with Carvex, there is only one tentacle. The next two stages have two and three tentacles, respectively, while the final stage has three tentacles and a wall of vines that players will traverse with a control beam. When they're not busy destroying Carvex's tentacles, they'll need to focus on dodging them, which they can do by shooting from left to right or jumping when he uses spin.
When it comes to destroying the core, missiles are the best option here. Players can get more shots by destroying the spinning metal balls that Carvex occasionally fires. As an added bonus, charging a control beam will automatically attract any nearby projectiles or energy balls. After enough rockets, the boss will finally descend and players will receive a Psychic Bomb as a reward for their trouble.
