Mojang has released the Mounts of Mayhem update for Minecraftwhich brings a lot of new content to the Bedrock and Java versions. While some Minecraft players have already had the opportunity to test some of the new features through Snapshots and Betas/Previews, the official release of Mounts of Mayhem brings content to the base game.

2025 has already brought a lot of new content Minecraft. Mojang previously switched to a new update release strategy, and these new updates, called game drops, gave developers the opportunity to release new content and features at a faster pace. This year, this new release cadence has fully manifested itself, with three game drops released so far. Spring to Life started in March, followed by Chase the Skies in June and The Copper Age in September. As the year draws to a close, Mojang has launched another game drop.

Minecraft's Mounts of Mayhem features Nautilus

Released on December 9th, Mounts of Mayhem is the latest game drop to land Minecraft. As the name suggests, the major update brings new mounts that players can take advantage of. Specifically, Nautilus and Zombie Nautilus have been added to the game as new mobs. They feature water-based mounts that allow players to travel underwater at 5.4 blocks per second (bps). In addition to improving underwater traversal, players gain the Breath of the Nautilus effect when riding one, allowing them to conserve air. While players can use pufferfish to lure the Nautilus close, Zombie Nautilus are usually accompanied by Drowned Riders that must be dispatched before being tamed. It's worth noting that the “very rare” Coral Zombie Nautilus can be found, but it only occurs in one type of ocean biome.

More zombie mounts are hiding in the new Minecraft game

In addition to the Nautilus, some other Zombie mounts were introduced. While exploring the Overworld, players may encounter the Zombie Horse, a mob that spawns after dark. As with Zombie Nautilus, the enemy rider must be dismounted before the undead steed can be tamed. MinecraftCamel Husks also made deserts exciting. While these mobs are tamable and rideable in daylight, they carry dangerous denizens: the Husk and the new Parched. Like his mount, Parched can be out in the sun without taking damage, making them a potential nuisance.

While Mounts of Mayhem introduces new rideable mobs, it also improves armor. Thanks to a new update, players can now craft Netherite Horse Armor to help better protect their prized steeds. With so many new mounts Minecraftit will be interesting to see how the fight develops.

Mounts of Mayhem adds a spear

Fortunately, Mojang introduced the spear to help fend off monster attacks. While this tiered weapon works well in hand-to-hand combat, it excels when mounted, as its damage scales with the speed the player is moving. Additionally, the developer pointed out that the weapon can be effective when paired with Elytra, as this equipment allows the user to reach high speeds. It should be noted that the spear also contains a unique lunge enchantment that increases the player's speed when performing a stab attack.

These are some of the new additions that Mojang has added Minecraft with its latest gaming drop. With this likely to be the last major update before the end of the year, it will be interesting to see what the developer has in store for 2026. MinecraftDue to the popularity of the game, there are likely to be other changes that could shake up the gaming experience.
