My Most Anticipated Capcom Game of 2026 Isn't For Everyone (And No, It's Not Resident Evil Requiem)

Capcom is starting the year very well Resident Evil: Requiem. As a long-time horror lover and gamer, I thought of something new Resident Evil game would be at the top of my wish list, especially when it comes to Capcom's offerings. To my surprise it is not. Don't get me wrong, I mean Resident Evil: Requiem she looks stellar. Playing as Leon Kennedy and hacking zombies again is really exciting, and Grace Ashcroft looks like an interesting new character to help keep you RE Requiem balances between survival horror and action-packed gore. However, Capcom has another game coming out a few months after that RE Requiem it has even more attention: Pragmatics.

Over the years, Capcom has built one of the most impressive rosters of gaming franchises. Pragmatics however, it marks a new era for the company. Like a brand new IP, Pragmatics brings something new from Capcom to the table for the first time in years. Some of the discourse around Pragmatics he was a bit divisive and that honestly surprised me. The controls are trying something new and the story looks like it needs to have a lot of heart combined with heavy action. Of course, some reluctance to be excited Pragmatics stems from Monster Hunter Wilds' abysmal performance at launch, but that doesn't mean Requiem and Pragmatics must have the same fate. There is also skepticism PragmaticsUnique combat mechanics, but that's one of the main things I invested so much into. Now that the playable demo is available, I'm more excited than ever.

Pragmat's combat mechanics won't be for everyone, but they definitely are for me

I love hack-and-slash and basic shooting as much as the next player, but it can get repetitive quickly. If there isn't a special spark that makes combat feel like an integral part of this game's world, I can get a little bored. For me, some of the best combat and defense mechanics of the last decade have been with games like Return, The last part 2, God of War, An axe, Managementand Alan Wake 2. Of course, Alan Wake 2 will be the black sheep on this list for some, but the flashlight mechanic has me scratching my head and adds to the series unique identity. I really appreciate the unique fight and between them Pragmatics and exclusive to PS5 SarosApril will be a busy month for me.

Pragmata's Hacking System promises a multitasking challenge

IN PragmaticsEnemy AI bots are protected by armor that can only be removed by hacking and disabling. So when enemies get close, a hacking mini-game will appear and must be successfully completed in a short amount of time before damage is done. This will be for players who prefer to shoot and slice whenever they see fit. For me, though, it's just the balancing act I crave in combat mechanics. Having to use both sides of my brain to take on enemies sounds like a really fun challenge that could make this one of the most engaging combat systems of the year. Fight in Pragmatics it makes you stop and focus while commenting on the power of the AI, and that's very cool.

There were reservations about how well the mechanic would work, but PragmaticsThe demo Capcom dropped last month seems to have fueled much more optimism. It's a bold approach for a new IP, but it's necessary to make the game world that much more believable.

Pragmatics triggers on April 24th.

I feel like Pragmata's story is setting me up for an emotional rollercoaster

The story has two protagonists, Hugh Williams and Diana. Hugh is an astronaut while Diana is an android who looks like a little girl. From the trailer alone, the dynamic between Hugh and Diana looks incredibly sweet. The two must work together to destroy the enemy robots living in the lunar research facility they find themselves in. It is clear that PragmaticsThe story creates a kind of father-daughter bond between these characters, but I'm also concerned that tragedy will play its part as well.

Whether it's Diana's origin or Hugh's story, the trailers for Pragmatics I feel like they foreshadow the rhythm of the story that hits me right in the heart. I'm a fool for that. Pragmatics has some serious Death Stranding vibes, but the father-daughter dynamic could also be a bit reminiscent The last of us. Bonds like Joel and Ellie and Sam and Lou always get me and I hope Pragmatics nails the same emotional note.

Pragmata could be one of the biggest surprises of 2026

The list of games coming out in 2026 is absolutely packed with exciting possibilities. Apart from games like RE Requiem, Sarosand Pragmaticsthere is Marvel's Wolverine, Fable, Resonant control, 007 First Lightand of course GTA 6 on the way. Last year was packed with hits and 2026 is shaping up to be on par with his list. There are also potentially even more announcements on the way. Pragmatics it has some serious competition, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it delivers on what it promises. The world looks fascinating, the characters are captivating, the fights are inventive and it just looks beautiful.

For Pragmatics However, to really work as a concept, almost every feature needs to be nailed down. From combat balance to emotional story moments, they have to flow seamlessly into each other, otherwise it could throw the whole thing off balance and feel more bizarre than unique. However, I am an optimist. After so many delays and years of waiting, PragmaticsHopefully, company development has given the time needed to make all the pieces work well together. Of course, the real deciding factor will be Pragmaticsedition. The demo is strong, but the short span of gameplay can't speak for the full game. Regardless, I'm really eager to find out what Pragmatics is all about.
