A Microsoft-owned studio, in addition to Bethesda, may have been working on a new one Fallout according to a renowned gaming journalist who has covered the video game industry since the 1990s, a game that probably won't be released now. Unfortunately, no further details were provided on this Fallout game.
This news comes at a time when fans are clamoring for new ones Fallout the game has reached its climax. In recent weeks, we've seen updates such as suspicious activity on Steam and item listings that have led some fans to Fallout 3 or Fallout: New Vegas the remaster announcement is coming. There was even a countdown Fallout The Season 2 finale, which some fans were hoping would lead to an announcement, was instead a 3D mock-up of Mr. House's shed.
A Fallout game may no longer be in production
During the last episode of The Jeff Gerstmann Show, Gerstmann stated that he was aware of a Fallouta “thing” in development at another Microsoft-owned studio that he believes “will never see the light of day”. Relevant comments begin with 2:48:52 timestamp in the video above. Prior to this independent podcast, Gerstmann served as GameSpot's editorial director for a decade before co-founding Giant Bomb. This gives him the benefit of the doubt and gives his claims more weight than most.

Gerstmann did not comment on which Fallout this game would be if it was a main series or a side title or which Microsoft owned studio was working on it. For many fans, a studio outside of Bethesda is ideal for working on a Fallout the game would be Obsidian Entertainment as previously developed Fallout: New Vegas. How Obsidian would fit this into their plan is unknown (since they recently released Grounded 2 in early access, Openand Outer worlds 2), but there is no indication from Gerstmann that it was also obsidian.
Not likely to be Fallout 3/New Vegas Remasters
While Gerstmann did not specify Fallout game, it is unlikely to be talked about for long Fallout 3 or Fallout: New Vegas remasters. Or at least we hope so. Gerstmann added that he thinks Fallout 3 remaster “was outsourced to an outside studio”, a long-standing rumor. One fan theory is that the Virtuos it worked on The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remasteredis being worked on Fallout 3while another external studio is working on Fallout: New Vegas (both with supervision from Bethesda). In theory it could have been any of these remasters/remakes that got cancelled, but it seems more likely that it was an unannounced spin-off as opposed to one of these remasters. Success Oblivion after all, it speaks for itself.
Fallout 5 is firmly in Bethesda's hands
Bethesda is still working Star fieldwith rumors pointing to it Star field is coming to PS5 in April and his next project is The Elder Scrolls 6. Bethesda has yet to reveal any concrete plans after the 2018 reveal Fallout 5 news is years away. Gerstmann also hinted that Bethesda would employ Game Studios before letting another studio work on it Fallout or The Elder Scrollsprobably at least in terms of new main games, but Bethesda has spoken Fallout 5 here and there.
Of course, there's nothing concrete here, but Bethesda's Todd Howard mentioned it earlier Fallout is the franchise that Bethesda is “doing the most right now,” and that includes the TV show. Howard also previously said the events of the Fallout show would be part of the official timeline for Fallout 5but anything official would be a pain in the ass.
Canceled details Fallout the game might come out someday if that's true, but there's no doubt that Bethesda is aware of the ever-growing demand from fans for something in the video game realm.
