Oda's secret designs reveal a Gol D. Roger-level ex-Marine admiral

This article contains spoilers from One Piece's Elbaf Arc.

When he comes into the world One piecefans know very well that Oda handled it absolutely brilliantly. In addition to what exists in today's world, there are legends of an ancient era and even entire forgotten worlds that have sunk to the bottom of the ocean. Naturally, fans have always been heavily invested in old characters, whether it was 900 years ago, 3000 years ago, or even more recently, in the Roger era.

Among the navy, Oda had already revealed some old legends such as Sengoku, as well as, the greatest of all, Naval Vice Admiral Garp, also known as the Hero of Legends. But at the same time, fans are well aware that there have been other admirals in the past. Now, Oda revealed one that was on par with Rogeralthough a little weaker.

Oda originally wanted Shiki to become a naval admiral

Shiki from One Piece

  • Shiki was drawn alongside Sengoku in Oda's Drafts

  • Shiki would believe in chivalric justice

The fans know golden lion Shiki be one of the main villains in One piece movies. He served as the main antagonist of Strong World and was eventually defeated by Luffy in the Grand Line. However, few people know that it was actually just a non-canonical version of Shiki.

Roger, I heard you found an ancient weapon. Join forces with me! — Golden Lion Shiki

In fact, the Golden Lion was so strong that he could rival even Roger. He actually did one of Roger's biggest rivals in One Piece. Shiki was monstrously strong. When he attacked Marineford after Roger's capture, it took Sengoku and Garp's team to finally stop him, destroying half of Marineford anyway. Such a feat is unprecedented and puts him on the same level as the legends of the world.

That makes it all the more shocking Shiki was originally supposed to be a naval admiral. When Oda came up with Shiki, he drew him as a naval admiral next to Sengoku. Shiki was recently introduced in One Piece 1155 as Gokudowhich indicates someone who follows the code of chivalry. In other words, this is probably what Oda originally thought of as his sense of justice – chivalric justice.

Shiki, my answer is no! I will never join you! — Goal by D. Roger

Shiki would be the Golden Lion of the Marine Corps

Shiki could have been Roger's rival

Fans are well aware that the Golden Lion, Shiki, was once part of the Rocks Pirates. His power was absolutely incredible and Oda had already revealed that in the story. But his character was always a pirate. Shiki was always cunning and clever, and if anything he believed in the way of pirates more than most pirates on the seas.

Still, if Oda really stuck with his original plans, then this basically just confirms that he would be Roger's rival as well. Of the Marines, the only one who rivals Roger for the most part is Garp. But in Oda's original ideas, Shiki was Roger's rival also.

Oda could completely scrap the idea, or it could be Shiki's past

Shiki from One Piece

It is highly likely that Oda was scratching the idea that Shiki is a naval admiral. However, this cannot yet be said with certainty. Fans don't know anything about Shiki's past at this point. His first appearance in the story was 56 years ago when he appeared on Elbaf with the Rocks crew. Before that, he might have been a Marine admiral turned pirate. Only Oda can give the answer.
