PSA: Details on the many endings of Escape from Tarkov will be discussed in this article.
While Escape from Tarkov has maintained a fairly steady level of popularity throughout its Early Access status, it's certainly taken a significant hit to the “mainstream” level now that it's in 1.0 state, on Steam, and endings that involve, well, mastering your escape from Tarkov.
Speaking of endings, as first spotted by Insider Gaming, one of Tarkov's four endings has an absolutely brutal ending, assuming A) you've made it to the end and B) you've got a full squad of people by your side.
Because if you manage to fulfill these two parameters, then Tarkov will let you know that not everyone can experience the end. Specifically, after fighting all the way through the Terminal, the entire squad is informed that the Zubr ship can only take three people.
The Zubr ship cannot take everyone. Evacuation will only begin when 3 people remain on the pier.
In other words, two people must be executed, and given that they are actual companions, it is not an easy choice.
When did we all decide Extraction shooters were a new thing
Marathon, Helldivers 2, Arc Raiders, Mycopunk and the canceled Titanfall extraction shooter. Is there room for it all?
“It's great and glaringly obvious – Tarkov is not like all these games that do nothing but provide a constant dopamine hit,” one defender wrote in part in the comments. “It's cynical and totally JUST like (Nikita Buyanov) to suddenly offer a choice of morality at the VERY end.”
That ending is very reminiscent of Mafia 2, where you as the player assume that Joe is part of the deal, only to be told in the end that he wasn't. It's cruel and also very realistic.
After all, it's only one of four potential endings that exist in this cruel world, and the others aren't nearly as drastic, but also cool in their own rights.
Tarkov with multiple endings is really neat and I hope other extraction shooters follow suit
As my colleague Josh Coulson noted in his report on the first person to actually escape Tarkov, there are actually four possible endings you can meet.
Consider that the ending that the very first successful one got was the second worst of all.
According to Insider Gaming, of the four existing endings, Debtor and Fallen are considered the worst to achieve. Survivor is meh, middle of the road, and the best ending, Savior, is also the hardest to achieve. It also has some story elements that we think are worth finding out, though we won't spoil exactly what they are since the endings are still so new.
