One Piece quietly sets up Luffy's next Haki Power Up

Monkey D. Luffy is one of the strongest characters in all One pieceand it goes without saying that he has already established himself as a monster in the final saga. Luffy stands alongside the likes of Shanks as one of the four sea emperors, and with each passing chapter he gets closer to his ultimate goal of gaining One piece. Even though Luffy is obviously very powerful, he has to be special even among Yonka to claim it One pieceand that would require him to take his devil fruit abilities as well as his Haki to the next level.

Currently, Luffy is the user of his Devil Fruit awakening and his Haki is quite refined, but when it comes to the last mentioned power, Luffy can do much more. There are many Haki users in One Piece who are still better than Monkey D. Luffy, and as such he needs to upgrade his Haki even more. how does it happen Oda had already prepared his next Haki upgrade after the Elbaf Arc.

Luffy has already learned three advanced types of haki in one go

Luffy Three Advanced Haki Types One Piece

In terms of Haki power, Luffy has already mastered the advanced forms of all three. As already made quite clear in the series, Haki is a spiritual form of energy that usually blooms in the middle of battle. Whether it's Luffy's Observation Haki that takes his senses to the next level, his Armored Haki that allows him to use his spirit as armor for attack and defense, or his Conqueror's Haki that allows him to intimidate others, Luffy has channeled all three to a very high level and greatly enhanced them.

In a battle against Charlotte Katakuri on Whole Cake Island, Luffy managed to advance his Observation Haki to a level where he could see the future. In Wano, Luffy learned to upgrade his Haki armor and was able to deal internal damage without coming into contact with his enemies. Eventually, in his battle against Kaido, Luffy learned to coat his body in Conqueror's Haki, allowing him to greatly increase his overall offensive and defensive performance.

While Luffy has clearly taken Haki to the next level, this power can continue to grow and Shanks is living proof of that. Shanks has Haki techniques that Luffy still doesn't have, such as the ability to paralyze others from miles away and more importantly, the ability to kill Observation Haki.

Luffy's next Haki upgrade will be kill observation

The power to prevent future readings

Luffy Next Haki Upgrade Observation Killing one piece

It goes without saying that Luffy is an absolute monster when it comes to Haki, but he's not on Shanks level yet. This means that Shanks is the model that Oda has for Luffy, and just as Shanks continues to progress in Haki development, so must Luffy. Currently, Shanks has several Haki abilities that Luffy does not have, and one of the most important of them is Observation Killing.

Going for the new buds that just changed the world? Are you afraid of the new age? — Shanks

Observation Killing is a very rare form of Conqueror's Haki which only Shanks can access at this time. This Haki allows Shanks to control his aura so that his enemies simply cannot read it anymore. This means that using Observation Haki against him is simply pointless. Against Shanks, neither his movements nor his future can be read. As such, Observation Haki is completely useless against him. Currently, Luffy does not have access to kill observationand as such, he must gain access to this power before he can fight Shanks. Against high-level enemies, this power will be incredibly useful for him.

Luffy's Haki must overcome Shanks' Haki

Luffy is the Joy Boy of the current generation of One Piece. As such, he needs to be at the top of the era, but as things stand, Shanks is still stronger than Luffy, meaning he needs to work on his abilities even more. In order for Luffy's Haki to reach Joy Boy's level, he must surpass Shanks. Through the Elbaf Arc and whatever comes next, Luffy will need to work on his Haki even further and learn advanced skills like Observation Killing among many others to truly surpass Shanks' Haki and then be ready to deal with Imu.
