In the final saga of One pieceFans have been waiting for certain characters to make a move and cement their presence in the narrative, including the likes of Shanks and Boa Hancock. WITH One piece Volume 114, which was released recently, created an interesting connection between the two characters by author Eiichiro Oda. On the surface, Shanks and Boa Hancock have nothing in common, aside from the fact that they are deeply connected to Luffy. However, there is a very strong connection between the two that ties into the big reveal that happened about Shanks' mother, Magnolia.
3 female Yonko level characters in one piece
One Piece has a lot of powerful female characters, but only a handful of them are Yonko level.
Shanks' mother may have been associated with the Kuja tribe
One piece volume 114 of SBS is officially out, and as always, Oda has revealed quite a lot of exciting information in it. One of the most important parts that Oda touched on in this SBS was about Shanks' mother. In the manga, Oda showcased Shanks' mom in God Valley, where she gave birth to both Shanks and Shamrock. She was eventually killed by Saint Garling on the day of the God Valley incident, but before she died, she entrusted both of her children to the Dragon.
Oddly enough, Oda never showed fans her face and only the fact that she had red hair was revealed. Even her name has been a secret until now. In One Piece Volume 114, SBS Oda further confirmed that her name is Magnolia. At first glance, it seems like a perfectly normal name, but when we look deeper, Magnolia is definitely a name inspired by a specific shrub that bears a specific flower that is also named.
In the world of One Piece, women who have names associated with flowers are almost always related to the Kuja tribe. For example, Boa Hancock, Boa Sandersonia, Boa Marigold, Shakuyaku, Gloriosa and even Lily are directly related to Kuja in one way or another. Magnolia in that sense will probably be associated with them as well, especially considering the fact that Oda chose to hide her face. It's through this connection that fans can find out a lot more details about Shanks' powerful Haki and things suddenly start to make sense.
Shanks' Kuja connection explains his Haki power
In the One Piece world, Kuja is known to naturally possess incredibly powerful Haki. In fact, all members of the Kuja tribe value strength above all else, and they all possess tremendous Haki power. Even normal Kuja civilians have the ability to use powerful Haki and for some reason it comes naturally to them. As such, among the Kuja, the strongest, Boa Hancock, has overwhelming Haki of all three types.
Garling, these are your children. They are Shanks and Shamrock. — Magnolia
One Piece: All Of Luffy's Forms, sorted by design
Luffy gained a lot of powerful forms that came in all sorts of strange shapes and sizes, some looking much better than others.
Even before the timeskip, the Hancock sisters could use advanced forms of Haki like Ryo, and potentially the ability to read complex movements. Now that the connection between Kuja and Shanks through Magnolia has been made, it makes a lot of sense why Shanks is a Haki master. Due to Kujo's natural affinity for this power, Shanks could have directly gained his incredible Haki abilities from this particular tribe of the One Piece world. Those with Kuja blood will have a natural affinity for high-level Haki, and Shanks has clearly demonstrated incredible mastery over this power, greater than anyone in the One Piece world. This could be directly related to Kuja and basically Boa Hancock as well. Shanks and Boa Hancock could carry the same blood, making them incredibly strong conquerors and pushing their Haki to an extremely high level.
Oda reveals Shanks' mother in more detail later
If Shanks' mom is indeed a Kuja, then surely Oda will materialize her even more later. This is because the Kuja are known to specifically give birth to women on the island.
-
However, it also implies that they can give birth to sons because Kuja is an island of women, meaning that if they ever do give birth to sons, they will likely stay on a completely different island.
-
It makes sense why Magnolia stayed in God Valley when you look at it that way. Maybe she gave birth to two sons instead of daughters and that's why she wouldn't want to go back to Amazon Lily because men are not allowed on this island. If Magnolia had chosen to raise the children in God Valley instead, then all things would begin to make perfect sense. In fact, Oda could even make a connection between Magnolia and Boa Hancock, depending on how he wants to move the story forward. The Final Saga will definitely shed a lot more light on Magnolia, as well as the Kuja Tribe, and fans should keep an eye out for it.
