Phantom Blade Zero will be a PS5 console exclusive for a year

The latest Phantom Blade Zero trailer not only confirmed the release date, but also revealed that it will only be a console exclusive on the PS5 for a year after its launch.

This week's Game Awards show was full of massive reveals and new trailers, but one of the games I was most excited about was Phantom Blade Zero. S-Game's action RPG has been on my radar since it was announced, so finally getting a release date (September 9th) was a definite highlight of the show.

We've known for a while now that Phantom Blade Zero will be a PS5 exclusive, meaning it will only launch on PS5 and PC in September. Nothing has actually been said about Phantom Blade Zero potentially coming to Xbox at a later date, but at least we know it has a decent chance of porting over.

Phantom Blade Zero could come to Xbox a year after PlayStation

September 2027 is the earliest possible date for Xbox players

As pointed out by Genki_JPN on Twitter, the latest trailer for Phantom Blade Zero was recently uploaded to PlayStation's official YouTube channel. While the trailer for The Game Awards version was cut before the opening screens, the PlayStation version has an interesting ending that should give Xbox players some hope.

As with Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth's opening trailer, the Phantom Blade Zero release date trailer ends with a screen confirming that the game will be a PS5 exclusive for at least a year. That means Phantom Blade Zero can to be ported to Xbox and other consoles from September 9, 2027.

On the one hand, Black Myth: Wukong tells us that the release timing could be incredibly accurate, as the game was also exclusive for a year and then ended on Xbox exactly 12 months later. On the other hand, these windows of exclusivity don't always manifest as Rebirth still it's not on Xbox consoles despite it being over a year since the exclusivity expired.
