Metroid Prime fans might wish most of the companions were a little quieter in Beyond, but many of them actually wish Samus was more talkative.
If there's one element of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond that has taken all the air out of the room since it even launched, it's the chatty companions. From the infamous (and hated) Myles Mackenzie to Armstrong, Beyond is packed with characters that are more talkative than anything we've seen from the Prime series in the past.
However, now that Metroid Prime 4 is actually out, some fans seem to have calmed down a bit on how emotional most of the actors are and even appreciated them a bit. This criticism has actually been replaced with a rather interesting one, as many players think that Samus might actually be small too peace.
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Players Wish Samus was a little more involved in the story
It's not like we've never heard Samus speak before
On the Metroid subreddit, fans have been sharing their reactions to Beyond in the last few days since its launch. The general response so far has been a little more mixed than you might expect, but one of the more interesting patterns is how many fans think Samus should have had some dialogue in the game.
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Is Nothing Without Its Loneliness
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond shouldn't be populated with characters like Miles Mackenzie.
One post by Redditor Ridley101 jokingly says that Samus' lack of dialogue and seeming “awkward” is because Adam didn't allow her to use the microphone, which is a nice throwback to the awful Other M. This post has many fans arguing about whether it's perfect that Samus stands while others chat on her, or something that hinders the gameplay.
I would argue that Samus already shows a lot of character with her body language, but that some dialogue for key moments would have made an impact. Dread basically did it best.
Many fans think that the belief that Samus has to be silent is outdated and that the way it was done in Dread was perfect because she has some remarkable lines of dialogue there. In a separate post, KalanKomplete points out that the story told in Prime 4 doesn't work when Samus is silent, and that she needed at least a few bits of dialogue.
Dread's use of dialogue is also highlighted in this thread, showing how many fans think she's the best example of Samus' character. Fusion is also mentioned positively in this regard for its handling of Samus and speaking, which makes it pretty clear that Prime 4's silence may not actually be aligned with the more emotional and character-driven plot that takes place in the rest of the game.
