PlayStation is officially shutting down Dark Outlaw Games, a first-person shooter studio that started in 2025. It's the second PlayStation studio to close in recent weeks.
As fans know, PlayStation announced in February that Bluepoint Games will end in March 2026. Bluepoint was the prestigious studio responsible for remakes such as Shadow of the Colossus and Soul of Demons. After the help of God of War Ragnarok and works on canceled God of War Live-service game, Bluepoint apparently couldn't block another project and would be subsequently closed by PlayStation. Now Dark Outlaw Games has been dealt a similar hand.
Sony shuts down Dark Outlaw Games
Dark Outlaw Games was announced and created almost exactly a year ago, in March 2025, and its closure was announced by Bloomberg's Jason Schreier. It was founded by the former Call of Duty led by Jason Blundell, who is best known for Black Ops series and the Zombies game mode, although there was no reveal for Dark Outlaw Games' first project. It's worth noting that Blundell also ran the previous studio, Deviation Games, which was shut down in 2024. It's unknown if any more details regarding Dark Outlaw Games or the IPs he worked on will ever emerge.
Schreier also reports that PlayStation is making other cuts, specifically within its mobile game development departments. Around 50 people have reportedly been let go, and this is just the latest in a wave of layoffs, cancellations and losses at studios in recent weeks for PlayStation and more. The industry seems to be hemorrhaging talent and developers amid ongoing economic woes, investment woes, and the like.

For example, on the same day as this PlayStation announcement, Epic Games Store CEO Tim Sweeney shared news of mass layoffs Fortnite developer via the Epic Games Blog. Simply because Fortnite loss of engagement from 2025, the company spends more than it earns. The end result is that more than 1,000 people will lose their jobs. Unfortunately, there is no end in sight to the mass layoffs across the industry.
