Pokemon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum leaks explained

Pokemon was recently hit with what is now arguably the biggest leak in series history. True to its name, Teraleak contained over a terabyte of previously unreleased information, all of which came directly from Game Freak itself. Of course, a leak of this magnitude left no stone unturned Pokemon series as a whole.

However, this does not mean that every game in the series received “equal treatment”. For example, there was almost nothing to share Pokemon red, blue and yellow leaks. Likewise, major unreleased Gen 2 content has leaked before. Although it comes much later than the previous two parts of the series, Pokemon Diamond, Pearl and Platinum seems to have met a similar fate. Although the low amount of cut content can be disappointing, it hides revelations that are much more exciting.

Pokemon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum leaks have glaring omissions

Until now, the main attraction of Teraleak has been the Pokémon themselves. Whether it's beta designs of existing Pokemon or never-before-released Pokemon, a number of leaked Pokemon designs have been at the forefront of this conversation. These can currently be viewed in the complete Teraleak archive published by Centro Leaks,

Unfortunately for Generation 4 fans, Pokemon Diamond, Pearl and Platinum largely absent from this section. This is currently a bit of a mystery compared to Pokemon Gold, Silver and Crystal leaks where the games are simply already being mined for all they're worth. Likewise Pokemon The series seems to have become more expansive over time, meaning that Gen 4 could be expected to keep pace with its peers. Fortunately, one major aspect of Generation 4 was still ripe for leaks.

Pokemon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum leaks have a clear saving grace

What Generation 4 lacks in unused Pokemon, it more than makes up for in unique design documents. Diamond and pearl marked a somewhat transitional period for the series in which the characters became more fleshed out and the world building became just as ambitious. Both of these features have been fully realized in recent leaks around Gen 4.

Similar to Pokemon black and white leaks, the 4th generation design documents include character biographies. These were obviously never meant to see the light of day and therefore should not be considered canon in any way. However, they provide interesting insights into the thought process the developers had when creating several important characters.

Likewise, they have become the subject of much fan discussion in their own right. For example, Cyrus is the leader of the Galactic Gen 4 team, and his biography suggests that he might be on the autism spectrum. The nature of the translation has given rise to several conflicting accounts, but there is nothing wrong with the main canons that were born regardless.

Pokemon Generation 4 leaks hide deep stories about the series

Additionally, the Gen 4 Teraleak section actually hides some depth Pokemon tradition. World building Pokemon she's been fairly light in the past, preferring a fairytale approach instead of any deep dive. This leak has finally cracked that shell wide open, seemingly revealing Game Freak's intended vision for creating the mythos Pokemon world.

Legendary and Mythical Pokémon have always had an ambiguous relationship, but one diagram in Teraleak seems to suggest that they exist as two halves of a shared pantheon. This portrays Legendary Pokémon as literal gods and Mythical Pokémon as lesser divine beings with a direct family relationship to their Legendary counterparts. Pokemon designs have always straddled the line between wild animals and mythical creatures, and these secret documents make that intention clearer than ever.

At first glance, there may seem to be less leaked content about the Sinnoh region compared to its peers. However, this could not be further from the truth. Teraleak has revealed information that provides much more clarity on both the characters and the story Pokemon Diamond, Pearl and Platinum. Some of the deeper lore is a complete surprise, but definitely welcome.
