Pokemon Go players will have the opportunity to meet and capture Mewtwo as part of an upcoming limited event for Pokemon30th anniversary. Pokemon Go is set to end its Precious Paths season on March 2, making way for the highly anticipated Memories in Motion era. An exciting month is coming up Pokemon Go players, with a fan-favorite legendary monster returning after four years.
2026 is a big year Pokemon Go. In addition to the game's 10th anniversary, Pokemon the franchise itself recently celebrated 30 years. To commemorate this milestone Pokemon Go has revealed its Anniversary All Out event for March 7-9. According to developer Scopely, “almost all” of the Pokémon that were released in Pokemon Go reproduces in the wild. This will give fans the chance to complete their Pokedex by catching creatures that would otherwise be too hard to find. However, there are exceptions to this event, as Pokemon like Kecleon, Smeargle, or Scatterbug will remain locked behind a special mechanic. Some mythical and legendary monsters like Cosmog, Zygarde and Mewtwo are also part of this list. Fortunately for players, the latter is making a comeback Pokemon Goand fans won't have to attend raids to catch it.

Pokemon GO Confirms Free Mewtwo Encounters for Pokemon's 30th Anniversary Event
From Tuesday 3 March to Monday 9 March Pokemon Go will hold his own Pokemon A 30th Anniversary event that includes a limited-time GO Pass that leads to meeting Mewtwo. If they're lucky, fans might even get to meet a shiny Mewtwo. Completing quests and progressing through the GO Pass will also allow players to encounter Kanto Pokémon and Candy. Additionally, fans can purchase a GO Pass Deluxe starting at $7.99 to receive additional rewards such as Mewtwo Candy XL, encounters with the Legendary Bird Trio, and Rare Candy. It was previously revealed that Mewtwo will return at Pokemon GO Fest 2026, which is expected in June. It looks like players won't have to wait too long for the Legendary Psychic type anymore.
The event will also see all Kanto-native Pokémon breeding in the wild, with the exception of Mewtwo, Mew, and regional Pokémon. It's worth noting that the Kanto forms of Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres will also appear in the wild, despite being normally locked to Raids. Achieving GO Pass Tiers 1 and 2 gives fans valuable bonuses such as double Catch Candy and double XP. To help players complete their GO Pass faster, there will be no daily limit on GO Pass points from March 7-9. Additionally, fans should watch out for Pokemon Go Raids as 1-Star Raids will feature Pikachu with Red and Leaf hats and 3-Star Raids will see Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise. Eventually, Ditto transforms into many different wild Pokémon.
It's common for Legendary Pokémon to be exclusive to events, but many of them tend to return within months. While Shadow Mewtwo was released for a limited event in 2024, his original form did not return. Pokemon Go from 2022. For players who previously missed out on catching Mewtwo, the upcoming 30th Anniversary GO Pass may be their best chance to add the Legendary.
On the other hand, some players believe that the game could finally release Mega Mewtwo X and Y later this year. Pokemon Go recently introduced Super Mega Raids, tougher Raids that allow fans to catch more powerful Mega Evolutions like Mega Victreebel and Mega Dragonite. Since Mewtwo will be part of GO Fest 2026, there is a chance that he could be added to Super Mega Raids. For now, fans have a lot to look forward to Pokemon Go's Memories in Motion season, which will run from March 3 to June 2, and is set to debut several new Pokemon.
