Translated from the Japanese, Sugimori revealed that Torchic was inspired by painted chickens sporting garish colors. The artist explained: “[Torchic] It starts off cute and then grows into something wild and hard to look at…we wanted people to raise them to feel that sense of disappointment.” There is one catch to getting Torchic. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet'with Indigo Disk DLC, but the Hoenn starter is a fan favorite despite his cuteness that evolves into a more aggressive evolution. A design history of the Torchic was also included in the post, showing seven concepts with ear-like feathers and brown feathers that preceded the final design.
