Pokemon Pokopia as the first Switch 2 exclusive title in the series, it was a huge success and even became one of the highest rated Pokemon games that are ever in process. Pokemon PokopiaMetacritic scores and reviews are a testament to the quality of cozy Animal Crossing– as a game, and it's no surprise that fans love it so much considering it has everything Pokemon staples with a completely new composition. It is also interesting to note Pokemon Pokopia has sneak peeks of Gen 10 games as well as massive lore implications, but one detail may have flown under the radar: further evidence that a new type of Pokémon is coming.
While Pokemon PokopiaHabitats and Ditto's abilities can rely on each Pokemon's own types, the gameplay is not similar to the main series. The types matter, but they are far from one of the focal points of the entire experience. As such, it makes sense to introduce new Pokemon variants in Pokopia that look like existing pets but with a new take, such as Mosslax, Peakychu or the new Stereo Rotom. Stereo Rotom in particular is an interesting case because it's an Electric/Normal type, but it might just be a placeholder for a new type in Pokemon winds and waves.
Pokemon Pokopia hides a secret demo for Pokemon Winds and Waves
Game Freak's latest Pokemon spin-off comes with a hidden teaser that harkens back to the debut trailer for the upcoming Pokemon Winds and Waves.
Pokemon Pokopia's stereo rotom basically confirms the type of sound in wind and waves
Speculation about a new type of v Pokemon games have been going on for years, and Sound is considered the most likely candidate. This is for several reasons:
-
There are dozens of sound-based moves Pokemon games like Bug Buzz, Sing or Boomburst
-
There are sound-related abilities like Soundproof or Punk Rock that reduce the damage done by sound-based moves or increase the damage they deal when used.
-
Many Pokémon already fit the sound type concept perfectly, such as Meloetta, Exploud, and Chatot. It is interesting to note that several of them are of the normal type

With that in mind, it's easy to see why PopopiaA new form of Rotom, called DJ Rotom, would match this. Not only does the Stereo Rotom's color not match its normal type, unlike other Rotoms that have matching colors and types, but it would also make perfect sense as a Boomburst user. Boomburst is one of the best sound-based moves in the series, and Electric/Normal Roto with STAB Boomburst can do some real damage, especially if it has a matching ability like Punk Rock.
Why Stereo Rotom is more of a testament to the type of sound in Gen 10 games
More importantly, it begs the question of why, if not for descendants and future changes, add a Stereo Rotom form that is a Normal type but has a blue-green glow instead of gray to match its actual type combination. This would be a fantastic addition to the Gen 10 games, and it would even fit since the games are named Pokemon winds and waveswith sound traveling through the air as sound waves. Although it may be a little cheesy, enter the audio Pokemon will have everything to do with Gen 10 wind and waves.
Due to the success of Peakych v Pokemon Pokopiaas with other forms like Mosslax and Professor Tangrowth, it would make sense for Gen 10 games to only include them at some point, though not at launch. But if that happens, adding Stereo Rotom as a usable form would at least set the stage for Sound-type in the future. If instead those foundations already exist, which seems likely given all the audio-related elements in the series, the Stereo Rotom may be an indirect confirmation that the new type in Pokemon winds and waves is not only possible but almost guaranteed. After all, it's been more than 10 years since the launch of Gen 6, when the Fairy was first added as the 18th type in the series, and Sound would be a nice addition to celebrate another 30 years Pokemon with Gen 10.
