Considering how successful Red Dead Redemption and his detailed follow-up was that it feels like a given that Rockstar Games will return to its western franchise at some point Grand Theft Auto 6 has been dominating the sales charts for a few years now. With a new entry in the series seemingly a foregone conclusion, fans are instead free to speculate about the content of this eventual Red Dead release. And they speculate that they have, as fans regularly talk about what they want to see from Rockstar's next take on the cowboy and outlaw era.
Aside from the setting – many fans want to see the rise of wild west gangs instead of further exploring the demise of this lifestyle – the most common point of discussion surrounding the next Red Dead Redemption the game is who could be the main character. While possible Red Dead Redemption 3 introducing an entirely new protagonist, which would probably even be for the best given how great Arthur Morgan was as a character, an equally strong case can be made for another Red Dead a game that refines an existing character and further develops it. And if this approach is ultimately adopted, then there is not only one, nor two, valid options. There are three characters that would really shine as protagonists Red Dead Redemption 3which are Jack Marston, Sadie Adler and Hosea Matthews.

Jack Marston and Sadie Adler remain the obvious choices for the protagonist of Red Dead Redemption 3
While there are plenty of valid options for new main characters in Red Dead Redemption series, as the above post by BestAd6459 suggests, the two most common designs are the same as always. First, people designed a game centered around Jack Marston where he is original Red Dead Redemption ended and focused on Jack Marston, who was being hunted after avenging his father. Not everyone likes the idea, to be clear; some feel that the idea of Jack continuing the cycle is enough, while seeing his predictable fate actually play out is potentially boring.

Another common design is Sadie Adler Red Dead Redemption 2 an excellent and skilled bounty hunter. Grand Theft Auto 6 Embracing a female co-lead makes Sadie seem more viable as a protagonist, and focusing on a vengeful widow would allow Rockstar Games to explore some themes about women in the post-Wild West era in a more thoughtful way. The risk with Sadie, however, would be her lack of ties to the classic characters, as she would come out unscathed as, for better or for worse, she would hunt for bounties and meet new characters unrelated to the Van Der Linde gang.
Perhaps one fun option would be to introduce both of these characters as Red Dead Redemption 3 the protagonists. Through her bounty hunting, Sadie Adler was able to learn about Jack Marston, who was wanted for killing Edgar Ross. She could take the reward to find Jack, obviously trying to save him and help him get over what he did, risking her own happiness and freedom because she feels the need to help someone she used to run with. Players could switch between Jack and Sadie at will, such as GTA 5 and probably upcoming GTA 6expanding on the way Red Dead Redemption 2 mastered its two protagonists.

The problem with Sadie and Jack, though, is that they don't match what the upvoted comments in the Reddit post above want to see in the next game. Some, like CT0292, want “a different gang, different people, a different time”, while ProRoyce wants Rockstar to “go back in time a bit” to the “golden age of the Wild West” where their choices matter. And while a more meaningful version of the Honor System would require a new protagonist since key parts of the Van Der Linde gang's history are set in stone, a return to the heyday of the Wild West with an existing character would be doable. Specifically, Hosea.
Since Hosea's death and final moments have already been seen, another subtitle may be needed with the word “Redemption” replaced by something else.
Hosea would be a very different protagonist than Arthur and John, but that would make him special. Moderated Hosea, a smooth talker, could be a way to introduce dialogue choices and speech controls to add depth Red Dead Redemptionmechanics. Additionally, focusing on young Hosea would allow players to see some big moments they've probably been thinking about, such as meeting the less unhinged Dutchman Van Der Linde, where they see the eventual gang leader at his best. A Hosea game would return the player to the peak of the Wild West and could even offer an Arthur Morgan epilogue, potentially closing his view of what happened at Blackwater. With all of these options viable, not to mention the many other characters that would work well as protagonists, Rockstar really has a lot to choose from.
