Metaphor: ReFantazio director Katsura Hashino has commented on the possibility of tackling a potential sequel to Atlus' award-winning 2024 JRPG hit. Metaphor: ReFantazio is a brand new title from Atlus and Studio Zero, fronted by a bunch of former talent who worked on Persona series, including Hashino. Many of Persona franchise mechanics have been translated into Metaphor: ReFantaziohigh fantasy setting.
Metaphor: ReFantazio was released to critical acclaim and builds on turn-based combat and social simulations Personaand combines it with an original political fantasy story. Metaphor: ReFantazio it even managed to win several awards at The Game Awards 2024, with the JRPG specifically winning Best Art Direction and Best Story. Therefore, many players consider it to be one of the best RPGs of 2024. Due to the success of the game, director Katsura Hashino stated Metaphor: ReFantaziothe potential for a sequel along with possible consideration for a full series.

In the latest Weekly Famitsu special double issue (cataloged by ryokutya2089), Hashino says there are no “concrete” plans Metaphor: ReFantazio series, but hopes to one day. Hashino then notes this Metaphor: ReFantazio began with the goal of creating a third JRPG series to stand alongside Shin Megami Tensei and Personahe said he hopes to make it a flagship that represents Atlus and Studio Zero. “There are no concrete plans Metaphor to the series…hopefully it can become a series one day,” Hashino said.
Hashino also comments on the setting of a game he would like to play in the future, saying that one idea for a future title would be the Sengoku period. He notes that a JRPG set in a world based on this particular time period could be similar to Capcom's Sengoku Basara series, which he also laughs at.

While a Metaphor: ReFantazio A sequel doesn't seem to be in the works right now, Atlus seems to have a lot of plans for 2025 if the rumors of Personality 6 news and official international version Persona 5: Phantom X it has to be believed.
