Resident Evil Requiem is the successor to RE4 as well as the sequel to Village

Resident Evil Requiem got a brand new trailer at this year's Game Awards, finally confirming what fans have been speculating for months: Leon S. Kennedy is back in action. Newcomer Grace Ashcroft looks like a compelling main character in her own right, but Leon returning to the picture really adds an extra edge. Resident Evil Requiem that the game may have lacked otherwise. Leon has always been one of my favorite characters, and I'm certainly not alone. He is a fan favorite for some reason and many have been waiting years for his return to the series.

Between Leon Kennedy and Grace Ashcroft, RE Requiem it has a convincing balance between action gameplay and intense survival horror, and the chance to get the best of both worlds is really exciting. WITH RE7 and Villagefranchise has morphed more sharply into survival horror, and as great as those two entries were, Leon's return paves the way RE Requiem feel that the series is returning to its roots. RE Requiem serves as a sequel Villagebut it is also being formed to be RE4 the successor that I and many others desire.

Resident Evil: Requiem releases February 27, 2026 for Nintendo Switch 2, PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.

The latest Resident Evil Requiem trailer has serious RE4 vibes

Perfectly styled hair? Control. Cool leather jacket? Control. Tearing up zombies with a chainsaw and kicks around the house? Double check. Leon is back and RE Requiem includes the things that make this character so much fun to play RE4. for the most part RE7 and Village they've been pretty grounded in their combat, which makes sense for survival horror, but dipping back into the cheesy action movie moments with Leon is a welcome return. Settings wise, RE4 and RE Requiem they're clearly incredibly different, but it looks like Leon's gameplay is meant to resemble the beloved entry. The RE4 the remake was a huge hit for Capcom, so it only makes sense that Leon would return with his epic rings.

RE Requiem may not have a village setting RE4but the return to Raccoon City is even more exciting as Leona returns to his beginnings. If I don't count RE2 and RE3 is remodeling, it's been many years Resident Evil revisited the city where the outbreak began, and this time the personal strengths of both Leon and Grace are bound to provide a more colorful experience.

Resident Evil Requiem still retains elements of sweat-inducing village survival

When RE RequiemThe first trailer and footage revealed earlier this year made it clear that the game is once again bringing players heart-pounding survival horror encounters. Grace Ashcroft works for the FBI, but she's an analyst, not a boots-on-the-ground agent. What she lacks in physical strength, she makes up for in great intelligence, and her humble personality makes her an ideal character as a survival horror protagonist. When it was confirmed RE7 Director Koshi Nakanishi will return to direct RE Requiemmany were ready for another survival horror, but it looks like the upcoming entry is going to take a bit of that.

Like RE7Grace's moments RE Requiem seem to take place in tight corridors and claustrophobic environments, and these enclosed environments were also part of Village so effective. It is not clear at this time how it is connected RE7 and Village RE Requiem is, but with Nakanishi at the helm, it's possible that there are at least some branching plot points. Donna Benevient's house Village remains one of the scariest gaming moments of recent years and RE RequiemThe demo of Grace trying to escape from a giant mutated monster has a similar effect.

Place Villageisolated european city, RE Requiem it brings a cramped environment to an urban environment. Yet, RE Requiem mostly showed Grace in the mysterious Wrenwood Hotel, and its many corridors and rooms are definitely callbacks Villagehouse-focused levels such as Beneviento and Lady Dimitrescu.

Resident Evil Requiem promises to celebrate classic Resident Evil while embracing the future

  • Leon S. Kennedy honors the founding of the franchise.

  • Grace Ashcroft offers a protagonist for a new generation.

The Resident Evil games have built one of the most iconic horror franchises in gaming, and with each entry the series has evolved in some way. The Winter Saga with RE7 and Village showed how a more intense survival horror can fit incredibly well into a franchise, but RE Requiem is a reminder that the series isn't completely abandoning its winning formula. A classic of course Resident Evil it always had a survival horror feel to it, but not on this level RE7 and Village as older games tended to interweave more action. The latter's decision to switch from a first-person perspective was also a bold departure from the franchise's usual methods, but RE Requiem it allows players to switch between the two, further showing how the game tries to balance the methods of both eras.

Like Ethan Winters, Grace takes Resident Evil into the future, while Leon is a symbol of the foundation and heart of the series. Resident EvilLegacy made her a horror icon and RE Requiem is about to demonstrate how the classic can be combined with the new to create something hopefully even scarier. Leon's action segments will basically be a breath of fresh air, as whenever players regain control of Grace, they can expect to be scared. Hopefully this will lead to a healthy balance as opposed to throwing all the actions in the final hours of the game, which has caused pacing issues for others Resident Evil titles.
