Resident Evil Requiem Mod adds infectious zombie bites

If you've made it through Resident Evil Requiem in Insanity mode as a zombie kiting pro, then you might be in for a challenge with a new mod that makes zombie bites contagious and potentially deadly.

In most zombie media, the biggest thing a survivor has to worry about is being bitten by a zombie and slowly turning into one of the undead. In Resident Evil, however, this is usually not very important. In almost every game in the series, its heroes are clawed, slashed and bitten by zombies only to live on and deliver an RPG to whatever big bad guy is waiting at the end.

To be fair, it's mostly for gameplay reasons, but it's still noticeable how many times Leon, Grace, and all the other protagonists get chewed out without consequence.

Resident Evil Requiem is no different, as zombie bites are just another day at the office for both Leon and Grace, who never react other than losing some health and looking a little disgruntled. This makes Resident Evil Requiem a little less stressful, but if you're missing the rush, then there's a new hard mod that's perfect for you.

That Literally Bite

Leon looks at the T-Virus in Resident Evil Requiem.

As expected of a Resident Evil game, Requiem has already managed to amass a sizable modding community over the past two weeks, from silly inclusions like a shirtless Leon to incredibly useful ones like the orphanage skip. Perhaps the most interesting of the bunch, however, is the one highlighted by PC Gamer called “Bites Matter – Infection”.

As the name suggests, Bites Matter allows each zombie's signature move to actually count for something other than just a bit of damage. Being bitten as Leona or Grace causes you to become infected, which slowly drains health over time (one health point per stack) and builds up if you keep getting bitten or simply ignore the infection.

As if that wasn't bad enough, infections persist across saved files and per character.

The only way to get rid of the infection is to use healing items, but only the Med Injector will actually heal them, while the green herbs will remove stacks and buy you time depending on how many you use. Considering how many people I've seen beat Requiem on Insanity mode in just a few hours, it sounds like this mod is the perfect way to spice things up a bit and add a significant challenge.
