Silent Hill 2 developer Bloober Team has been teasing its fans for the past few days with a mysterious website running a countdown to Valentine's Day. After doing some research and finding out that the text on the site is from a poem, theories surfaced that it was a remake of Bloober Team's Rule of Rose.
It's a game that has a bit of a reputation, mostly due to its dark themes, but also because it's a highly sought-after PS2 title. It would have been right up Bloober Team's alley to give a Rule of Rose remake, given how well it did with Silent Hill 2 and its ongoing original Silent Hill remake project, but unfortunately the studio shot down all the Rule of Rose hype.
Rule Of Rose is not getting a remake, Bloober Team confirms
First spotted by FRVR was Bloober Team CEO Piotr Babieno, who rained on the Rule of Rose fan parade in a new post on his LinkedIn page. In the post, Babieno says that the Rule of Rose remake was a “good guess” but ultimately wrong. In fact, he goes a step further, revealing that the countdown “definitely does not refer to any remake.”
Not every Silent Hill fan is excited about the first game getting a remake
I see in my restless dreams that the DLC…
While this is a clear confirmation that a Rule of Rose remake isn't coming, it also means that this countdown isn't even teasing the original Silent Hill remake that the studio is working on. This means it's either a brand new IP from Bloober Team like Cronos: The New Dawn or a sequel to an already existing game. Babieno never ruled out a Rule of Rose sequel?
If it's a new IP, then there's really no telling what it could be. The Bloober Team has worked with just about every setting you can think of, from gritty alternate realities to full-on sci-fi. It's hard to tell with so little information, so I guess we'll have to wait until February 14th to really find out what it is. Hopefully this mystery update will be updated with a few more jokes by then, just to whet our appetites a little more.
