It looks like the long-awaited Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake may not be with us in January as rumored, as Ubisoft is still hiring for the project and skipping The Game Awards.
Despite going through developer hell over the past year and only having one teaser trailer, the past few weeks have been awash with rumors of a Sands of Time remake. These rumors, which come from reliable insider Tom Henderson, even suggested that the game could launch as early as January 2026 and appear at The Game Awards.
For a game that's all about how time can screw up, it looks like those rumors of a surprisingly quick launch may no longer be accurate, as it looks like the Sands of Time remake still has a bit of work to do, even skipping the event we were all sure was coming.
Prince of Persia: The Sands Of Time remake may be further away than we think
Don't expect a re-discovery this month
As reported by Insider Gaming, the official Prince of Persia Twitter account recently responded to a comment confirming once and for all that Sands of Time “will not be TGA this year.” While it's possible the account is just trying to keep some of the secret ahead of next week's big show, this seems like a pretty definitive confirmation.
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown Never Had a Chance
The only thing to blame for The Lost Crown's failure is Ubisoft's mismanagement.
This makes a January release seem a bit more unlikely unless Ubisoft is planning a surprise shadow, but Redditor Blue-fox-004 also pointed out on the Prince of Persia subreddit that Ubisoft has added a few new remake-related jobs to its website. These positions seemingly include lead environment artist, texture artist, and level art.
It's not entirely clear when these jobs were added to the site, but Blue-fox-004 suggests it's a fairly recent change. Although the positions were outdated and not recently added, they are still accepting applications at the time of writing. All of which makes the rumored January release seem a little more unlikely.
That being said, Insider Gaming has been very reliable on Ubisoft's rumors, so it's possible that the new roles are aimed at getting the game to the finish line, or maybe even supporting it at launch. It's a little early to say what that means, but at least we know for sure that The Sands of Time won't be at The Game Awards and is still in some form of development.
