Some fans of Silent Hill 2 Remake will get the wrong version of the game

Some fans of the Silent Hill 2 remake who pre-ordered the highly anticipated title are frustrated because they received the wrong version of the game.

Silent Hill 2 players like Twitter user Steven_VP1 discovered that Mary's body is in the car that James drove to the town of Silent Hill, seen at the beginning of the game. Players discovered that looking at the back seat of James' car, the Bloober team went through the trouble of actually putting a blanket on the back seat that covers a shape resembling a human body. Using Unreal Engine 5's camera tools, Steven_VP1 was able to get a closer look and revealed that it appears to be a body hidden under a blanket.

Was Mary always in James' car?

For years, players wondered if Maria's body was actually part of the vehicle in the original Silent Hill 2suspecting it to be in the trunk. However, players used third-party tools to cut through and peek inside the trunk, only to find it empty. It makes sense considering no one would see there when playing properly, and minimizing resources as much as possible would help the game run better on the PS2. Between In the Water and Rebirth Silent Hill 2 ending, though players got the feeling that it was there all along, even though they weren't allowed to see it.

In 2023, a game developer and original creature designer Silent Hill trilogy, Masahiro Ito, spoke of the long-standing belief that James would put his wife's body in the backseat, not in the trunk. He reasons that James still loves Mary and wouldn't do something so cold with her remains as put them in a trunk. However, Ito also pointed out that if they made it visible in Silent Hill 2that would have given the ending away entirely, so it was left out. Bloober Team seems to have taken this into account, making it vague and partially hidden. Players who do not yet know about the truth v Silent Hill 2 they may not notice it at all, and even if they see it, they may not think anything of it. However, those in the know will likely appreciate this nod to the reality of the situation.
