Soulcalibur III PlayStation re-release likely won't have trophy support

When it comes to fighting games, Street Fighter got a new entry with Street Fighter 6, Tekken got a revival with Tekken 8, and even Marvel Vs. Capcom is back with the Arcade Classics Collection. But when it came to Soulcalibur, things were less stellar.

There has been no new entry for “Tale of Souls and Swords” fans since October 2018, and despite some cryptic teases, it doesn't look like we'll be getting a new game anytime soon.

At the very least, Soulcalibur III will make its way to modern hardware via the PlayStation Plus Classics Catalog sometime before the end of the year. However, it doesn't seem like Trophies should come with it.

In a post reconfirming the news, Soulcalibur's official Twitter account noted that the game will be available à la carte and playable on either PS5 or PS4, but made no mention of trophies, which some in the comments took as a sign that they wouldn't be coming.

Of course, we'll have to wait until its release to officially know one way or the other. But it wouldn't be the first time that Trophies wouldn't launch with the game on PS Plus Classics.

PlayStation Plus Classics has a rich history of trophies

To this point, several titles that have been added to the Classics library have been added without any Trophy support, including some massive additions like Resident Evil 2 and 3, as well as Tekken 2 and 3.

This last part bodes too well for the release of Soulcalibur as Bandai Namco is also the team behind Soulcalibur as well as Tekken.

Then there are games that didn't launch with Trophy support, only to add it after launch. These titles included Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy, which added listings for PS4 and PS5 copies of the game, as well as Up. Suffice it to say, it's a bit of a sticky situation for trophy hunters.
