STALKER 2 Officially Announces First Major Story DLC, Coming Summer 2026

GSC Game World has officially announced STALKER 2: The Price of Hopethe first major story expansion for its hit game. The DLC promises dozens of hours of content and will debut in all versions STALKER 2 in the summer of 2026.

The notification did not arrive in a vacuum, as STALKER 2: Heart of Chernobyl has already launched with a November 2024 season pass, and bundles the promise of all future content, including two story expansions, with the $109.99 Ultimate Edition. Although the open-world FPS-RPG hybrid has seen several major updates since then, GSC has kept both of these story expansions under wraps until today.

STALKER 2: The Price of Hope Announced with Dramatic Trailer

First major STALKER 2 story DLC, Cost of Hope, was officially announced a while ago, during the last Xbox Partner Preview event. The March 26 presentation included a dramatic two-minute trailer combining in-engine cutscenes with a few glimpses of gameplay. The video creates a renewed conflict between STALKER 2The Duty and Freedom faction as a catalyst for the Cost of Hope storyline. Based on the footage shown, it looks like the fragile peace between the zone's two largest factions will crumble over the course of the expansion, sending players into the heart of the ensuing chaos.

While the Zone in the base game is already a large playground, Cost of Hope is set to expand it to include two new regions in the northern part of the map: the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant and the Iron Forest. The reveal trailer features several segments presumably recorded in the race area, without revealing the exact circumstances that brought players there. Each region will have its own hub and quests, as well as some other “activities” that GSC is keeping under wraps for now. The expansion will also include new weapons and equipment, the developer confirmed, without specifying how many will be added.

Cost of Hope will unfold concurrently with the base game's story, GSC said. Once the expansion is downloaded and installed, the game's PDA will alert Skif of a new quest that will kick off the DLC storyline. Like the rest of the game, Cost of Hope will feature an open structure with options that shape events and add replay value. The GSC has not confirmed whether the elections from STALKER 2The main story will affect the expansion, but since it takes place in parallel, it seems unlikely.

Cost of Hope is targeting a summer 2026 release, with the very end of its reveal trailer confirming this. Although STALKER 2 was a limited-time Xbox exclusive that took an extra year to reach PlayStation 5 after debuting on Series X/S and PC, its first major story expansion will have a fully cross-platform day and date. GSC did not provide any pricing details. The price of an Ultimate Edition game upgrade can mean that the expansion will sell for around $20, although season passes are often less than the combined cost of their individual components. GSC has yet to confirm whether Cost of Hope will be sold separately.

GSC frames Cost of Hope as the middle part of its “second trilogy”, which began with STALKER 2 basic game. The story of the trilogy is planned to conclude with another story expansion, which has no title or release window yet. As Cost of Hope is currently on track to debut almost two years later STALKER 2there's a chance that the game's final expansion might not happen until 2028. While two years is quite a long wait for a single-player DLC release, GSC notes that Cost of Hope will include dozens of hours of gameplay, making it more comparable to a new game rather than a minor expansion.
