The following article contains spoilers for events after Infinity Castle.
Demon Slayer is currently the most famous ever! When its success is discussed, it is often attributed to its top-notch animation and soundtrack. But a large part of its success is also the cast of diverse characters. Each character has their own story that helps them shine through the different arcs of the anime.
From Hashiras to demons, each character also gets a chance to show off their power. The strength of swordsmen is shown through their elegant and powerful breathing style, while the powers of demons are usually dominant through the use of supernatural abilities. Let's take a look at who was the strongest character appearing in the various Demon Slayer arcs.
Demon Slayer: Best episode in each arc, ranked
Demon Slayer is made up of iconic and memorable story arcs, and for each one there is a single episode that stands above the rest.
To keep the list fair, only characters appearing in combat or with multiple main appearances during arcs are considered.
Final Choice Arc – Sakonji Urokodaki
The opening arc briefly sets up the atmosphere of the anime. We are made aware of the existence of important roles such as Hashira, but we have yet to see them in action. Much of the arc is devoted to Tanjiro's training and character building. That being said, we constantly see Urokodaki not only as Tanjiro's mentor, but also as someone who is immensely powerful. He is introduced as a former Hashira and that alone puts him on a higher level than the other characters in this arc who are just trainees.
So it seems appropriate to state Sakonji Urokodaki as the strongest known figure of the time.
Hijacker's Swamp Arc to Tsuzumi Mansion Arc – Tamayo
The events between the Kidnapper's Bog Arc, the Asakusa Arc, and the Tsuzumi Mansion Arc can all be summed up under one heading because they only featured one big fight. Tanjiro and his newly met allies, Tamayo and Yushiro, encountered the Termari Demon and the Arrow Demon, who claimed to be part of the Twelve Kizuki. While their claim was false, they were shown to be formidable foes at the time.
They defeated the pair of demons mainly because of Tamayo's Blood Demon Art. Although Tamayo not directly involved in the battle, her abilities and knowledge make her the strongest character during this arc. The importance of her skills and knowledge continued to influence the series here on out.
Mount Natagumo – Giyu Arch
The Mount Natagumo Arc is undoubtedly one of the most important arcs of Demon Slayer. It was exposing Tanjiro and his companions to the threat of the Twelve Kizuki. Tanjiro put up an incredible fight in this arc as he went head-to-head against Rui. He also almost defeated him using the Hinokami Kagura dance. But that still doesn't make him the strongest character for this arc. In the end, he failed to defeat Rui.
At a critical moment, Giyu not only did he show up and save Tanjiro, but he also easily defeated Rui. He gave fans a glimpse of Hashiro's power by casting the Eleventh Form of Water Breathing.
Rehabilitation training arc – Kanao
Remembered as the arc that officially introduced all the Hashiras, the Rehabilitation Training Arc featured some of the strongest characters in the anime. But although they were introduced, they were not seen in combat. Instead, the focus was on the Butterfly Mansion. Tanjiro and the others participated in various exercises to improve their breathing techniques. Kanao was also present in the mansion and constantly beat the others in exercises. She had also already mastered Total Concentration Breathing despite being on the same final exam as Tanjiro and Zenitsu.
Although he eventually defeated Tanjiro Kanao she once seemed more experienced as a demon slayer at that point, setting her up as the strongest character in the arc.
Mugen Train Arc – Kyojuro Rengoku
It would be a surprise if no one heard it Kyojuro Rengoku she was the strongest character during the Mugen Train Arc. His epic battle against Akaz was an amazing display of his skills. Despite being pushed to the limits of the human body, his durability and swordsmanship allowed him to keep up with Akaz's supernatural strength and regeneration.
Akazu was so impressed by Rengoku's power that he declared him one of the chosen ones. If Akaza hadn't escaped by momentarily sacrificing his front limbs, he would most likely have died.

Arc – Tengen entertainment district
The top rated season of Demon Slayer has some epic fights. Various characters, from Tanjiro to Gyutaro, showed off their incredible abilities and strength. But Sound Hashira, Tengen Uzuitakes the crown for strongest character. When Gyutaro was poisoned, his heart stopped beating for a moment, making it look like he died.
But in episode 10, he rejoined the fight and used his musical score technique to fight Gyutar. He did it when he only had one hand. This opportunity allowed Tanjira and the others to behead the demon siblings.
Swordsmith Village Arc – Mitsuri
The Swordsmith Village Arc focused on the fighting skills of the two beloved Hashirs. Muichiro fought Gyokko and Mitsuri fought Zohakuten, which is probably the strongest form of Hanteng by a mile. Both battles were incredible as they showed that both Hashiras have a strong side. While Muichiro's strength lay in his intellect and evasiveness, Mitsuri used her physical strength and unique swordsmanship.
But MitsuriThe battle seemed much harder because not only was she fighting the fourth strongest member of the Twelve Kizuki. But it was also a long battle that lasted forever until Tanjiro destroyed Hantengu's main body.
Hashira Training Arc – Nakime
Most of the Hashira Training Arc was rather peaceful, with demon slayers doing their best to become even stronger under Hashira's cruel guidance. But the final episode captures the epic battles that await at Infinity Castle. While Muzan is restrained by Tamayo's blood demon art, Himejima shows a brief but powerful display of power. He smashes Muzan's head and even deflects Muzan's attacks.
On the other hand, Muzan regenerates his head in an instant. He continues to fight Himejima while being held by Tamayo's Blood Demon Art. But both show only a fraction of their power in this arc.
When discussing strengths, he considers not only their own strength in direct combat, but also the impact their skills have on the overall situation. Muzan was cornered by Hashira and would most likely be drawn into an unfavorable fight. But in due time, Let's go he not only saved him, but also transported countless demon slayers to Infinity Castle. This act alone saved the demon lord and also drove the demon slayers to a dangerous and unknown battlefield, giving her the well-deserved title of the strongest character in this arc.
Infinity Castle Arc – Muzan
This arc had no shortage of epic fights. Both the Upper Moons and Hashiras put on a display of power that was leagues above what the fans had seen before. Notably, Akaza's fight against Tanjira and Giya only ended because Akaza chose to do so. It also took the combined efforts of the three Hashiros and Genya to take down Kokushibo. While both of their fights were impressive, their strength doesn't come close to Muzan's.
Nearing the end of the Infinity Castle Arc, Muzan he had already completed his regeneration and introduced himself as the most formidable antagonist in the manga. Although most of the action takes place in the next arc, Muzan shows a glimpse of his power by being able to fight three Hashiras and Tanjiro at once without breaking a sweat.
Sunrise Countdown Arc – Yoriichi
Muzan continues his dominance in the final arc of Demon Slayer. Despite getting weaker by the second due to Tamayo and Shinbou's drug, he continues to be a formidable opponent to the combined powers of the demon slayers. When Tanjiro manages to unleash the Thirteenth Form of Solar Breathing, it still doesn't put him convincingly close to Muzan's power.
But thanks to Tanjiro's ancestral memories, we get to see a character even stronger than Muzan. Yoriichi TsugikunAn encounter with Muzan is shown in these chapters, where Muzan not only faced him, but also cut him to pieces in an instant. He proceeded to destroy 1,500 of the 1,800 pieces Muzan split into, but Muzan eventually escaped. This single fight makes Yoriichi not only the strongest character in this arc, but the entire anime.
His power was so overwhelmingly one-sided that Muzan continued to haunt him hundreds of years later. During the battle with Muzan, Tanjiro also noticed the scars on Muzan's cells that were caused by Yoriichi's attacks.
