Super Mario Galaxy post-credit scenes explained

Super Mario Galaxy Movie finally arrived in theaters. Through the fast-paced 98-minute adventure, Nintendo fans were treated to a ton of Easter eggs, franchise fanfare, and even a few gaming icons that exist outside of the massive Super Mario universe. Like all great adventures with this high-flying Italian plumber (Chris Pratt) saves the day from Bowser (Jack Black) and his evil son Bowser Jr. (Benny Safdie). Still, as with the first film, you'll want to hold off until the credits roll for the two main showcases for the greater Nintendo Cinematic Universe. Warning, there are major spoilers Super Mario Galaxy Movie first.

Super Mario meets Star Fox

In the first post-credits scene, Fox drops off Bowser and his son in a prison at an undisclosed location. Mario's arch-rival, the now infamous Dry Bone Bowser in literal pieces, initially tries to escape with Bowser Jr.'s help. As they dig a hole, they are greeted by a hostile familiar face: the death-obsessed blue Luma Bowser held captive in the first film. This delightfully insane Luma has been promoted to prison warden. It's a funny scene that reminds us that even though they're mentally scarred, Lumas can't stop being endlessly cute.

As for Fox, he has a quick word with Toad outside the prison before flying back to his own universe. While this could just be seen as a nice way to bookend Fox's story, it could represent potential Star Fox spin-off movie. It's something that seemed like a distant dream to fans of the niche franchise, but Powell's love and electric enthusiasm for the character was felt throughout this intergalactic mission. Nintendo doesn't do anything by accident. It is a company that is very protective of its properties. Especially when he learned that Powell had been campaigning for Nintendo to create a Star Fox movie after the first Super Mario movie has been released, it's certainly not the last time we'll see him on the big screen. The actor's nostalgic nudge was the reason why Nintendo included Fox in this sequel as well. As for Nintendo's future film projects, anything is possible at this point.

Star Fox has always been a rock franchise to say the least. Although games like Star Fox 64 (1997) are considered classics, trips like The Adventures of Star Fox (2002) and Star Fox Zero (2016) had a mixed response from fans to say the least. The latter's stunning Wii U game was the final nail in the coffin for this console generation, and the 2016 title was Fox's last solo adventure. It was a long decade after all Star Fox. Yet, Star WarsThe future of the rails-inspired space shooter has never been brighter. Who knows, along with a possible spinoff, maybe Powell could play a barrel in the games by voicing Fox in this interactive space as well. Slippy, Falco Lombardi and Peppy Hare ended up being sorely missed.

“Here comes Daisy!”

Daisy

The second and final post-credits scene finally introduced the franchise's final main princess: Princess Daisy. This short trailer sees fans back in The Gateway Galaxy. This was a central place full of easter eggs in the movie. ROB, Piantas z Super Mario Sunshine (2002) and shadow wart (Luis Guzman) and Birdo from Super Mario Bros. 2 (1988) are all seen in this sequence. This is also where our Super Mario team meets Fox. But before that, the main plot thread is a thrilling chase to retrieve the toad's backpack from the mischievous monkey Ukiki. Ukiki, who debuted in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island (1995), would return in Daisy's post-credits scene. They are seen stealing something from another helpless bystander again, and Daisy stops them right in their tracks.

The princess has no dialogue, but her yellow dress is unmistakable. Like Yoshi in the first film's tease, the third film seems to focus primarily on this oft-forgotten princess. While Daisy is mostly reserved for sports titles like Mario Kart, Mario Tennis, Mario Golfand Super Smash Bros.the princess of Sarasaland debuted all the way back Super Mario Land (1989). This first 2D Mario platformer for the Game Boy had Mario rescuing second place Peach. However, like Peach, Daisy looks like she can fend for herself in this ever-expanding cinematic universe.

Besides that, another major component of Daisy's story is Luigi. The two are often depicted as love interests, like Mario and Peach. Luigi even joked about Peach “having a boyfriend” so he could date him Galaxy Movie. This could also suggest that Peach already knows and is friends with Daisy like in the games. Only time will tell how Daisy will be involved in the inevitable third film. It's extra interesting considering that Galaxy Movie revealed that Peach and Rosalina are sisters. Would that change the dynamic of this princess team?

While we wait for more news about the next movie and the potential Star Fox spin-off, you can currently play as both Fox McCloud and Daisy Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (2018) on Nintendo Switch. Daisy is also a playable character Super Mario Bros. Wonder (2023). This lively 2D platformer just got a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, adding Rosalind and Lum as playable characters. This was a draw for Galaxy Movieedition.
