Super Mario Galaxy viewers think Luma dropped the F-bomb

Nintendo is probably the friendliest video game developer in the industry. Just ask those who bought Dispatch for Switch 2. This PG-13 approach also extends to The Super Mario Galaxy Movie and its prequel, as neither of them have mature themes. However, it seems viewers heard one of the movie's cutest characters drop the F-bomb.

I haven't seen the movie yet, but you can bet I already booked my tickets after hearing about it. As noted by Kotaku, it seems many members of the audience heard the yellow Luma use the wrong word. While this wouldn't normally be a big deal, it's kind of funny because it's a Nintendo movie for kids, of all people.

Luma has a potty

Of course, he doesn't actually drop the F-bomb, the line is actually, “Princess Peach, I finally found you.” However, Luma garbles the line at the wrong time to make “finally” sound like “damn”. You can be sure that Nintendo didn't allow vapid swearing into their movie, but I can see (or hear) why some people thought it sounded like an F-bomb.

As someone who has nephews who parrot everything they hear, I can understand why parents would be a bit taken aback by this. In addition to targeting longtime Mario fans, the films are also aimed at introducing Nintendo's IP to a younger audience. In fact, Shigeru Miyamoto said that movies aim to go where games can't.

In a recent interview, Miyamoto said that Mario has always evolved with digital media and that games can only reach so many people. They are a great way to get kids interested in playing Nintendo games. It's pretty funny to think of a theater full of kids and parents cringing when one of the cutest characters in the movie drops the F-bomb.

Nintendo is most likely preparing their lawyers to go after Luma after tarnishing her family reputation.
